OCTOBER 20131
|
|
|
From The Executive Director:
 | Yadira at Maple Acres! |
The golden and crimson leaves silhouetted against the deep blue autumn sky make October a favorite month for many. Here at ACLAMO we herald the Fall season with our traditions, among them our annual pilgrimage to the local pumpkin patch, our Halloween party at the local senior center, and Thanksgiving food drive (featured next month), and even our less anticipated-by the children - annual flu shot clinic.
We are also reminded of our deep roots in the community with a second generation of friends who were once helped and are now "passing it forward". (Rosario's story below). You can join the ACLAMO Family by participating in a special upcoming activity. Please plan to attend to our first annual BIDS For KIDS' Education auction and cocktail party. See below for details. Gracias! - Juan Guerra

Thirty-seven years ago, a group of friends and neighbors joined together with their Norristown community and created an organization to assist the growing Latino population. Over the decades, the nationalities have changed but the needs of families remain the same; to provide security, love, an education, and a future for their children. Thus, ACLAMO was born! Derived from the Spanish verb, "aclamar" which means "to proclaim", we are committed to offering everyone that comes through our doors the opportunity to achieve the American dream of success. Our programs and positive outcomes speak to that reality.
In order to successfully continue our mission, ACLAMO needs your help! Please plan top attend our First Annual BIDS For KIDS' Education auction and cocktail party benefit to be held on Wednesday, December 11 from 6 until 9 pm at the Washington's Memorial Hall Firehouse at 36 W. Elm Street in Conshohocken. This will be a fun and inspiring gathering in which you will have the opportunity to meet and network with other ACLAMO volunteers and participants, as well as those individuals who count on ACLAMO's services.
Please mark your calendars. Among the many items offered, we will have gift certificates to restaurants, sporting events, and vacation opportunities-many of which make great holiday gifts! We hope to meet many of you, thank you.

Goats, cows and pigs are not common sights on the streets of Norristown. So the visit to Maple Acres Farms in Plymouth Meeting by 23 children and their mothers -- all enrolled in ACLAMO´s Family Literacy Program -- was an experience to remember!
Teachers Linda Maldonado and Marla Benssy carefully planned the fall curriculum so that students would have more than just fun from this October activity. Read More
