Hermie Tolerba's Plane Trilogy
Hermie Tolerba, Block Plane Parts
As Texas woodworker Hermie Terbola explains, "it was 9 years ago that I first heard about the famous blades being made from somewhere there at Fort Bragg, California." At that time Hermie had no idea Hock Tools produced kits, but he had an article by Neal Barrett in a 2004 issue of  Popular Mechanics to get him started on building three basic wooden handplanes. The article recommends using blades from Hock Tools for all three.

Greetings!
Ron in HOCK Shop
Ron Hock

Is it Spring yet? Let's hang in there. Good weather is just around the corner.

Please make sure to read Linda's
interview with woodworker and toolmaker Isaac Fisher and view Shaping Planes to Fita video in which Isaac talks about shaping your wooden handplanes to fit your hands and your style of work.

If you completed our last survey, thank you! I greatly appreciate all the helpful info and many kind words written in the comment sections. FYI, your response to the idea of offering ready to use handplanes was lukewarm at best so we're rethinking that plan.  But, the sheer numbers of specific comments about the satisfaction of building handplanes from our kits and from scratch, and using our replacement blades and assemblies, was very gratifying and quite helpful.

Please click the Survey Button to your left and help us once again, this time with your preferences about this newsletter.

I hope all is going well in your shop and, of course, let me know if you need anything from Hock Tools.

Sincerely,

Shaping Planes to Fit with Isaac Fisher

Isaac Fisher is a cabinet maker here in Fort Bragg, California, where Hock Tools is also located.

Isaac designed and custom built our kitchen and I can say without a doubt that Isaac is an incredibly accomplished woodworker and designer. He is a great problem solver, and a very fussy guy when
it comes to tools and outcomes.

This was a sow's ear.  Isaac solved more problems than I care to remember.

You may already know that Isaac is our official kit maker here at Hock Tools.  He designed and builds our popular Scratch Stock and helps create and shapes tools that work for woodworkers, as well as helps choose the best woods for each plane.

Remember to come back to watch
our video Shaping Planes to Fit,
in which Isaac shares all sorts of tips
to help you shape wooden handplanes
to fit your hands and your work.
You'll be glad you did!
