Michaelmas Festival to be Held on Friday This Year

Michaelmas During our end of year faculty meetings, the faculty took up a brief examination of our school's current festival life.  Our summer meetings (held in June and August) provide us time to reflect on the school year that is coming to a close, and to look forward with eager anticipation to the year that will begin for us in the fall.  In the seven years I have worked at CSWS I have witnessed a steady, striving approach to providing our community a rich festival life.  This festival life has evolved and deepened over 23 years.  We have been blessed to work with active class parent bodies in addition to our dynamic Parent Guild.  As we reflect on that work, we have witnessed the demand that the festivals place on our families, faculty and administration.  For several years, the faculty has sought an opportunity to plan for a festival outside of the weekend, and we seized on an opportunity that the timing of our June meeting afforded us.

Michaelmas This year, we will be hosting our Michael Festival and Feats of Courage on Friday, September 27th.  There will not be a festival day held on Saturday, in an attempt to offer the experience of a rich festival during a school day.  Sacramento Waldorf School, Camellia Waldorf School and other Waldorf schools hold their Michaelmas celebrations on Fridays during school. We will be gleaning lessons learned and practical advice from them in our planning.  Our Michaelmas Play will continue, as it is a tradition for our school. The Pumpkin Path, Advent Spiral and Mayfaire will remain weekend festivals, and we will solicit feedback after Michaelmas on how this change in scheduling worked for you and your family.

Michaelmas We realize that this will make it more difficult for some parents to attend the festival, and we hope that this early announcement will help in planning your fall schedule.  A task force will be meeting in July to begin the planning and logistics for this change.  We are excited at the opportunity to bring additional balance and health to our working, and we will be communicating more information about this festival in August's Update.

Thank you all for your tremendous support,

Amy Elder

FUNDRAISING
Scrip: An Easy Way to Support Cedar Springs!

We're only about halfway through our summer break so far, but it's already time to look ahead to the new school year.  Because I'm the volunteer Scrip coordinator, I get the honor of reminding everybody every so often that Scrip is such a valuable and easy tool for all members of our community to use to raise extra cash for our school.  Many merchants, both online and brick and mortar, will repay your loyalty to their business by donating money to your choice of non-profit organization.  I know you want to make CSWS your top choice! The process is simple, and for most stores, it's as easy as swiping your loyalty or scrip card whenever you shop.

eScrip MallShop through eScrip's online mall when you shop online. It's easy!! How easy?  So, say, you want to buy something through Amazon.  First , save this link to your favorites eScrip On-Line Shopping Link.   Click on it, follow the links to Amazon and Cedar Springs gets 2.4% of your purchase.  Cool, huh?  The link is also available under the Giving tab on our school website Cedarspringsonline.com.

And, to our new community members, welcome and I look forward to meeting you.  The Scrip program will be explained at the new parent orientation on August 10 and you will have the opportunity to order scrip cards.  Just know that Scrip requires nothing of you except that you use your scrip card when you do your grocery shopping.  In the meantime, there's no need to feel left out. You can still take advantage of our eScrip online Mall - just remember to click the eScrip button on the school website before you finish your purchase.

scrip 10%August is Back-to-School Month at Safeway where they donate 10% for the purchase of selected items.  You can find out more at http://www.safeway.com/ShopStores/Back-To-School page.

Nugget cards are due for renewal in August.  Simply log into your Nugget account at https://scrip.nuggetmarket.com to renew your account.  I'll be sending out email reminders throughout August to those who received their cards through the school.

Just let me know if you need new cards or want information about our programs.

SEEKING HOME/WORK TO COME TO CSWS

My name is Theresa and I am looking to relocate to your area.  My focus is to get my son into the Waldorf school and birth my new baby at home in the fall. I am a 33 yr old single mother and my son is a adventurous sweet 5 yr old who would be applying to Cedar Springs' 5-day Kindergarten.

HOUSE VISION:  We are looking for a new peaceful abode to call home. A yurt, cottage, something simple! We'd love to grow our food as well and maybe even have animals. We are open to share as long as we have space with the new baby. We are clean and conscious tenants. We also have an elder black lab that is a part of the family.

WORK VISION:  I've been in childcare my whole life and a pp doula for the past 9. I am hoping to pursue my Waldorf teacher training when baby grows a bit. I have just come from a training in Portland at an outdoor Waldorf school focused on permaculture. I am creative and willing to help! I can also offer my Korean style body work that is very healing.

PLS contact me if you know of something that might fit for our family. My email is fungolove@yahoo.com or you can reach my cell @ 510-499-6921 Be well~Theresa
