Message from Mrs. Kunze

A HUGE THANK YOU to our wonderful PTSO for hosting a fabulous Neon Bash today.  The 271 kids that stayed had an amazing time. A special thanks to bash organizers Vicky Perkins and Elizabeth Wenzel and to Missy Kahn for organizing concessions. Also a special thanks to all the moms who sold tickets, helped setup, and stayed to supervise.  A big thanks to our teachers who volunteers as well!!

With our numbers well past 1250, we generated a 2nd dean.  Kelly Abbatinozzi left the PE department on Thursday and started her new role as dean.  Mr. Kevine Coffey is returning to Swiss Point as a PE teacher.  Congratulations to both!!

I am happy to announce that we have enough interest in DC to take 5 buses!!  This is unprecedented for Swiss Point!  The first installment payment of $220 for students & $250 for adults is due Thursday, September 15th. Please make checks payable to Swiss Point MS.

Monday, September 12th is the district interim date.  Grades will be updated in HAC by 3pm.  We do not post interims as grades are always changing as new assignments are entered. We hope that parents are monitoring grades and are encouraging their child, if struggling to seek help.

Thursday & Friday, September 15th & 16th - Fall pictures will be taken through social studies classes.  If your child had social studies today, they should have the picture form.  Students with social studies on black days will receive their form on Monday.

THIS THURSDAY, September 15th is the LAST day to order PTSO Spiritwear for the year.

RAIDER HOUR ACTIVITIES - Tue, September 13th
Raider hour will be Tuesday this week.  The top priority during Raider Hour is academics!  If students do not have a make-up test or need to see a teacher for extra help, then they can attend a club meeting.  If they are not attending meetings, they will remain in homeroom to complete homework or read.

Book Club began this past Thursday during Raider Hour.  During this club we will be reading and discussing all the Sunshine State Books.  From this club the Battle of the Books team will be picked based on students' knowledge of all the books.  Congratulations to Devon Weber for reading ALL 15 Sunshine State Young Reader Books already this year!

There is lots of activity going on in the Media Center.  Please make sure your student is returning their books on time.  There is a date slip at the front of their book when it is due.  Every day that the book is overdue, the student has a .05 fee.  There are many late fees that have accumulated already this year.  Please remind your student to return their books. A student can renew their book one time if they are not finished with the book.  (Unless the book is on hold for another student OR it's a Sunshine State Book)

Information Changes
It is imperative that parents call into school to change home phone numbers, cell numbers, work numbers and email addresses as soon as they are changed.  In an emergency situation, it is difficult to contact parents when the information provided is not correct. Please contact Norma Miller at norma.miller@stjohns.k12.fl.us with changes.

Immunization Records
Parents, I wanted you to know that anytime this school year, 2016/2017, that you get your 11 year old student their Tdap shot, you can bring it to the school, fax it or scan it. You don't have to wait till they are just about to enter 7th grade to get this immunization to us.  In fact, many 6th graders who are 11 already have it. This is a 7th grade requirement but to avoid delays, waiting in lines turning them in on Back To School Day, get it to us early!!  We would really appreciate it. Our fax number is 547-8635. You can also email it to norma.miller@stjohns.k12.fl.us.  The shot record must be on a Florida 680 form.
