SPRING BOOK FAIR -Thank you to the volunteers for their time during the Book Fair!  We truly could not do these events if we didn't have your time and Thank you to the Raider families who supported the Book Fair!!  

Color Run was a success!!  What a great time we had at the SPMS PTSO Color Run! Over 200 kids, parent volunteers and faculty enjoyed getting blitzed with a rainbow of colors while eating popcorn, snow cones and watching our beloved Mrs. Kunze get dunked in the Dunk Tank!! Lots of kids with great aim made this year's event the best one yet. Thank you to all the volunteers for helping make the event the best it could be, the 8th grade leadership class and all the families that supported this fun fundraiser!

There are so many reasons to become involved with your school's PTSO that we can't list them all, so join us at the next meeting to find out! 

Please consider lending your skills to the PTSO!  We have several committee openings for the 2016-2017 school year!!  Join us now for our meetings to learn what they are and to shadow the folks that are involved now to make an easy and fluid transition!!  We are a low-key group of parents helping the school be the best it can be!!  We need YOU!

Some FUN activities are coming up this Spring!!  Come to a meeting to find out what they are!!

We just received a check for over $1000 and did a second mailing for the Boxtops has already gone out!  The last mailing for the year will be in June. Turn them in today!!  Campbell Soup labels will be mailed out in the next few weeks, so you still have time to turn those in as well!  Thank you for supporting the label programs!!

A SignUp Genius request went out earlier in the week seeking proctors for over 360 slots.  There are 30 days you can choose from to help.  Some days there is only a need for a few people and other days as many as 31.  Please consider making time to help out.  This large of a request can only be accomplished by many!

Creative Outlets
The District Middle School Art Show will be on exhibit at the St. Augustine Art Association, 22 Marine St., St. AugustineOpening night and reception is Friday, April 1 from 5:00 to 9:00 pm.  The art exhibition will continue until Saturday, April 30

The Middle Years
The Middle Years, Working Together for School Success is a publication for students and parents which addresses issues specifically for middle school students.  Sections of the publication include Short Stops, Questions/Answers, and Parent to Parent.  These articles come out once a month with supplemental articles published frequently.

Parents of current 6th graders! Please read this! There are 288 current 6th grade students that we still do not have a record of receiving their Tdap for entrance into 7th grade! Students can receive this shot when they turn 11 years old.  Please do not wait till the last minute! I have been reminding you since Thanksgiving break, then the holiday break, then the Spring Break I reminded you again. Before you know it school will be starting and your student will not be able to start on the first day or get their schedule. There will be no exceptions! The Tdap shot must be documented on a Florida 680 form. No receipts will be accepted. If you have any questions please email me at joan.beccard@stjohns.k12.fl.us or call 547-8628.

Athletics
NOTICE:
The Saint Johns Middle School Athletic Association ("SJMSAA") middle school sports program is not operated or sponsored by the St. Johns County School District. SJMSAA is an independent, private non-profit corporation, which uses District middle school names and facilities under a license agreement with the District, and which is solely responsible for the operation of the SJMSAA middle school sports program and its individual teams.

Running For FUN Every THURSDAY AT 5:15-6:30 PM
Beginners and advanced come out for some training, exercise and fun.  Wear comfortable shoes and clothes to get sweaty in! Bring a water bottle too!



SJMSAA Raider Cheerleading 2016-2017
Please contact Ryan Baer, coach, to sign up 

Ryan will send you the cheer handbook with requirements for the summer & cheer seasons. There are also forms in a separate packet that need to be completed prior to tryouts. 
The athletes have to bring the parent signed forms, $10 cash to tryouts, AND have the $150 SJMSAA Registration Fee in a MONEY ORDER made out to SJMSAA. They must also provide the teacher evaluations (1 evaluation for rising 6th graders and all 3 evaluations for rising 7 & 8th graders).The physical is not due until the first week of practice.
 
Required Clinics to try out- Monday and Tuesday, April 18-19th 3.30pm-5pm in SPMS Gym 
*Ryan will be there at the 2pm release both days for any current 6th and 7th graders trying out so that they can stay until clinic begins.
Please have them bring homework to do.

SPMS Baskeball Camp
Switzerland Point Middle School will be hosting its Annual Summer Basketball Camp for boys & girls ages 6 - 14. The camp will have three one - week sessions June 6 - July 1, 2016. This is a fun filled camp where "Teaching Never Stops". Don't be left out of this year's camp because the camp fills up fast. Policy Reminders
Access to the building
We have been informed by the district  that ALL parents that plan on entering the building during the day before or after school ,even if students are not in the building, need to be cleared.  We are asking that EVERY parent or guardian that might be on campus for a conference, IEP meeting, 504 meeting or for anything else, PLEASE click on the link below to register for access.
NOTE:  Access files are good for 3 years.  Please do not apply again but call the school that you wish to have access to and they will help get the file updated. Call the school also to add SPMS to your list of schools you wish to have access to.

Gamble Rogers Music Festival Youth Performance Competition
Call for Musicians!
To be held at the Colonial Quarter
St. George Street, Downtown St. Augustine.
The Producers of the GRMF are excited to announce a YOUTH PERFORMANCE COMPETITION to be held at the 21st Annual Gamble Rogers Music Festival.  A two-hour block of time has been scheduled for Middle and High School age students (including Home School students). Auditions will be accepted through YouTube or Vimeo videos. Deadline for entries is April 1, 2016.
Important information;
  1. Original music is welcome and covers accepted
  2. Solo acts and Bands, of no more than 4 persons, will be accepted
  3. Each performer or group must be able to do a 20-minute set (4-5 songs). Only one full song is needed for audition.
  4. Sound equipment will be provided. All performers must provide their own instruments.
  5. The performance time will be 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Saturday, April 30th.
  6. Auditions must be sent via YouTube or Vimeo link.
  7. Application information must be completed with link information.
  8. Chosen acts will be announced on April 9th. 5 acts will be selected.
  9. The acceptance committee will include professional musicians and selection is at their discretion.
  10. A winner will be selected from the live performances.

Bartram Trail High School Athletic Department Student Sport Physicals For Rising 9th Graders
  • Physicals may be secured through your own private physician or at BTHS on Saturday April 23rd from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
  • A team of doctors will be on hand April 23rd to help provide physical examinations at a cost of $20.00.  Please bring cash or check made payable to BTHS for $20.00 (Please make sure your address and phone number are on the check.)
  • In an attempt to minimize the length of wait, we are encouraging that athletes follow the assigned times:
    • 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.                       A - L
    • 2:30 p.m.  - 4:00p.m.                       M - Z
  • The parent/guardian should fill out Part 1 and Part 2 of the Physical Evaluation form with their child prior to arriving for the physical examination.  This form must be filled out completely.  The physician on duty will complete Part 3.  Student/Parents should sign/date this form in all required areas.
  • Students with previous/current medical concerns should see their family physician for sports physicals.
  • The date is reserved for only students who will be attending Bartram Trial High School.  Students attending other high schools should contact that school's athletic director to see if they have a date scheduled at their school for sports physicals.
  • For those athletes doing a camp this summer, parent consent forms as well as the heat, concussion and cardiac forms will be available for athlete/parent to sign.  These form must be on file prior to participation in athletic activities, including summer camps.

Future Bears- We are less than a month away from the best night out this spring- Our Annual Low Country Boil.  Join us for a fun night of food, friendship and fundraising. First Annual Flight of the Hawks 5K & Fun Run
Hickory Creek Elementary is hosting the First Annual Flight of the Hawks 5K & Fun Run on Saturday, April 23 at BTHS. Please see the above picture for more information.
 
Bartram Bash and Earth Day Celebration to be held at Alpine Grove Park
On Saturday, April 23rd, the St. Johns County Parks and Recreation will host the 12th annual Bartram Bash at Alpine Groves from 9 am- 4 pm. The event is environmentally themed and is a birthday celebration of William Bartram, the first American born Naturalist.
 
Highlights include live music, historical reenactors, nature walks, kayak rides, games, food trucks and various presentations and displays.
