Message from Mrs. Kunze

A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who helped proctor the FSA Writing exam this past Tuesday.  We very much appreciate your time and support!

PTSO will host a Color Run on Thursday, April 7th during the school day during an extended Raider Hour.  A flyer was given to students today to take home.  The cost is $35, which includes a t-shirt, snow cone, and popcorn.  There will also be music and concessions.  The proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards purchasing more tables for the cafeteria patio.

Last Friday the Swiss Point Dreams Come True Club hosted their Annual Variety Show.  The $1,000 raised from this event will be used to sponsor a dream for a child with a life threatening illness.  THANK YOU to all DCT members and those students who participated in the Variety Show, along with the teacher sponsors!!

Many of the 8th grade girls are planning ahead and starting to shop for the 8th grade Dance that will be held on Friday, May 20th from 7pm to 10pm.  More information about the dance and ticket sales will be given to students in April.
The girls always ask if dresses have to be within the school dress code.  The dresses do not, but we do want the dresses to be age appropriate and to cover their chest completely and not be so short that they can't bend over. One of the best things about this last dance with the 8th graders is that ALL of them end up dancing.  The girls need to be able to comfortably move in the dress and not have to hold the top up on a strapless dress.  They also need to be realistic with their shoes and not wear high heels that they can't walk in.  If students have any questions, please encourage them to ask me. (Mrs. Kunze)

8th grade parents, remember that the high schools will be visiting Swiss next week to register students for next year. Each high school provided information regarding appointment times and registration materials.
Bartram - Tuesday through Friday
Creekside - Tuesday
Nease - Thursday

Raider Hour activities this Tuesday, March 8th.
Students who need to make-up a test or see a teacher for remediation takes precedence over attending a meeting.  Academics are always top priority!!
Make-up testing in cafeteria
Chess Club in 580 w/Rizzuto
NJHS meeting on outside patio w/White & Puett
Tropicana Speech Contest (6th gr) in auditorium w/Worth
7th & 8th gr Art Club in 755 w/Montesano
Video Game Club in 355 w/Toblin
Band Groups (French Horn Friends, Tuba Tutors, Baritone Buddies, and Bassoon Buddies) if needed

Below is the FSA & EOC schedule, PLEASE mark your calendars and try not to schedule anything when your child will be testing.  The tests are all back to back so squeezing in make-up exams is very difficult.  If you are discussing schedules with a mom from a different middle school, our schedule is slightly different.  The state selects schools every year to help calibrate each exam and Swiss was chosen for 6th grade math, so we must administer 6th grade math during the first week of testing.

In the month of March we are having a Lucky Charm Hunt.  Use the Lucky Charm jingle to help you find a book in the library that will have a hidden coin in it.  For example the "horseshoe", could it be in a book about a horse?  Or maybe a book that has a horse as a character?  There will not be just one book, there will be numerous books throughout the month, all based on the Lucky Charm Jingle.

Spring into a NEW book!  We have bought a bunch of new books for the end of the year.  Be the first to check them out!

From the Nurse
Joan Beccard
Licensed Practical Nurse
547-8628

Parents, I know you may think it is too early to be thinking about you 6th grader's Tdap for 7th grade but it is not! So far only 80 students have received it. That leaves just about 300 that still need the shot for 7th grade. Spring break would be a great time to take care of this requirement. The Tdap shot must be documented on a Florida 680 form. This can be obtained from your doctor's office, a walk in clinic or the St. Johns County Health Department. Please call me at 547-8628 if you have any questions. You can also email me at the above email address.
Thank you,        Nurse Beccard

5-2-1 Almost Done
Parents, so many students come to the clinic and have not eaten any breakfast. They tell me they did not have time. I keep going back to the jingle I learned from Nemours on their phone when you are on hold. It had kids singing "5-2-1 almost none." That stands for 5 fruits and vegetables, 2 hours or less of screen time, one hour of physical activity and almost no sugary drinks! That is what they should be doing daily. I wish that everyone would try to practice this. You will not only be helping them with their health now but also their future health

New Prescription Medication Form
There is a revised prescription medication form on our website under Parents. Click on Clinic/Health information and you will find the new form there. Any questions, call please feel free to call Joan Beccard,
