Message from Mrs. Kunze

Congratulations to SPMS 7th grader, Santhya Raman who represented Swiss with amazing determination and skill at the District Spelling Bee on Wednesday, January 13th.
Santhya placed 3rd after 38 nail-biting rounds lasting nearly 4 hours. The top three duked it out for 14 rounds alone, and the entire bee lasted 49 rounds. The bee was broadcast live on talk radio and also recorded by district media services to be viewed online soon.
We are all very proud of Santhya's accomplishments!

CONGRATULATIONS to Laurie Zentz for making the Top 5 for the District's Teacher of the Year.  The TOY winner will be announced at the Teacher of the Year and Rookie Teacher of the Year Banquet on Tuesday, January 26th.
All of us at Swiss Point know that Mrs. Zentz is #1!

This past Wednesday students attended our quarter behavior expectation assemblies.  With each grade level we discussed what students are doing well and what we need to improve upon.  Students in all grade levels have been told that there is a reward trip planned and if anyone receives ISD or OSS 2nd semester, they will not be eligible to attend.
8th grade trip - GradVenture on Friday, May 6th
7th grade trip - movies in May
6th grade trip - movies in late April

Also, this past Wednesday, we practiced our required drills - fire, bomb, tornado, and intruder.  We want to thank the students for taking the drills seriously, so we are all prepared in case of an emergency.

Since we just completed our required 2nd semester drills, we would like parents to ensure their emergency contact information is up-to-date.  If we were to have an emergency, students would ONLY be allowed to leave campus with a person listed on their emergency form.  If you think you have a friend or neighbor that you would want to check-out your child, they MUST be listed.

Honor roll certificates and reward cards for 2nd quarter were sent home Friday.  Please ask your child for them.

Representatives from Bartram Trail HS were at Swiss Thursday and Friday to speak to all 8th graders through their language arts class.  Students learned about the high school career academies available to them and how to apply.  PLEASE ask your child to share the handout they received and what they learned.  The District High School Showcase at World Golf Village is THIS Thursday from 3:30-7pm.  This is a drop-in event where students and parents can learn more about academies and talk to students and teachers involved in them.  There are many important decisions for high school that must be made this quarter.  We ask that everyone please pay attention to the deadlines, so your child does not miss an opportunity.  (For more information and dates, please see the 8th grade corner section below.)

Raider Hour activities this Tuesday, January 19th.
Students who need to make-up a test or see a teacher for remediation takes precedence over attending a meeting.  Academics are always top priority!!
* Hoops for Heart Basketball game - Teachers vs. 8th grade players.  Cost is a minimum $1 donation to attend.  Only 700 students can attend.  Students will pay and receive a hand stamp during lunches.
* History Fair Performances in MPR
* Book Club in Media Center with Mrs. Gill
* 6th grade Art Club in 755 with Mrs. Montesano
* Science Olympiad meeting with Ms. Stanke
* Dreams Come True meeting with Mrs. Bower in portable 1

Current 6th grade parents:  It is never too early to schedule a doctor's appointment for the REQUIRED Tdap vaccination that your child MUST have for 7th grade.  Every year we have students who can not attend classes, because they have not received the vaccination.  PLEASE plan ahead!  We will take the Florida 680 Form (blue) at any time now through August.

Swiss Point has a Shoparoo account.  Shoparoo is an extremely easy way to fundraise for Swiss Point.  All you have to do is download the app on your phone and take pictures of your shopping receipts.  We earn points for each receipt, which turn into dollars for Swiss!  How easy!  Patroit Oaks just received $1,000.  Please download the app today and enter Swiss Point's code - swub3488.
