Media Center News

Chris Southworth, Media Paraprofessional
Celebrate Literacy is January 25-29th.
The theme this year is bringing awareness to helping those around you through reading and is titled "Literacy Changes our World" There will be lots of fun reading events going on here at Switzerland Point Middle School.
- We will be doing a Community based project with the 2nd grade team at Hickory Creek Elementary School. We want to donate your students' gently used elementary books to help "beef up" the second grade teachers' classroom libraries. Anytime in January you can have your students bring books into the Media Center. We will be delivering them on January 29th.
- I want to ask students to take pictures of themselves in front of their bookshelf at home and I am calling it a "SHELFIE" Students can send them to me via email or Edmodo and I will post them in the Media Center the month of January.
- "Reading is Sweet" When students check out the week of Celebrate Literacy, they will receive a sweet treat!
- There will be daily Mystery Readers on the morning news show. If you know who the reader is, you bring your guess to the media Center and your name will go into a drawing for a gift card!
- Finally every day will have a theme to encourage reading.
Monday: "Reading Rocks-Wear Funky Socks"
Tuesday: "Hunt down a Good Book-Wear Camo"
Wednesday: "Hats off to a Good Book-Wear your favorite hat"
Thursday: "Score with a Good Book-Wear favorite sports team colors"
Friday: "Raiders Read-Wear SPMS clothing"

Sore Throats
I am seeing a lot of kids with a sore throats. I have them gargle with salt water and they seem surprised. According to Mayo clinic, for best results, gargle with half a teaspoon of salt in a full glass of warm water. They should gargle the solution for a few seconds before spitting it out. For best results they should do this every hour till they go to bed.

Policy Reminders
|
We have been informed by the district that ALL parents that plan on entering the building during the day before or after school ,even if students are not in the building, need to be cleared. We are asking that EVERY parent or guardian that might be on campus for a conference, IEP meeting, 504 meeting or for anything else, PLEASE click on the link below to register for access.
NOTE: Access files are good for 3 years. Please do not apply again but call the school that you wish to have access to and they will help get the file updated. Call the school also to add SPMS to your list of schools you wish to have access to.
Lunch boxes and Water bottles
Parents, please write your student's name on their lunch box or water bottle. Every couple of months a huge bag of lunch boxes is donated to charity that have no names on them. Students are reminded constantly on the intercom to check the lost and found in the front office. This is an ongoing problem.
Early Checkout Procedure
The following procedure will be strictly enforced: no student may be signed out after 1:35 pm, every day except Wednesday. The latest early checkout on Wednesday is 12:35 pm. Parents must arrive in the front office no later than 1:30 pm (or 12:30 pm on Wednesday) in order to sign their child out early.
