Message from Mrs. Kunze

Monday is the last day to turn in magazine sales.  Shop online at www.gaschoolstore.com
School ID:  2529543

TODAY is the last day to pre-order a yearbook for $35.  Information on how to order is below.  Yearbooks will cost $45 starting tomorrow.

Grades have been updated in HAC as of this afternoon. We hope that you are checking on your child's progress and seeking help now if needed.  Please don't wait until the end of the 1st quarter if your child is struggling in a course.

PTSO will host their Annual Back to School Neon Bash on Friday, September 18th from 2-5pm.  Tickets will be sold during all 3 lunches on the 16th, 17th, & 18th.  Cost is $8 for non-members and $5 for PTSO members.  Students will receive fun neon favors and will have fun being with their friends and enjoying the music played by the DJ. Concessions will be available, so students will need money if they want to purchase pizza, chips, candy, water, or soda.
The event ends at 5pm and parent pick-up is in the back bus loop.  PLEASE NOTE:  If you need to pick your child up before 5pm, please tell him or her, so they can place their backpack in the main office.  The parent will need to go through the main office to the gym to find their child.  We will not be interrupting the music to call names for early departure.

Your child was given a picture order form in their social studies class yesterday or today.  PLEASE ask them for the form.  Pictures will be taken next Thursday & Friday, September 17th & 18th through their social studies class.  To order pictures students MUST bring back completed form with money.

We are still looking for 2 parent volunteers to work in a 6th grade science or world history class from 7:40am to 10:15am one day a week.  If you can assist, please click on the link below for the sign-up genius.
ALL volunteers must be cleared through the district.

Personnel changes
Teacher for Math 2 (replacing Sekora) - we have hired a teacher, Mrs. McNamara, from Durbin Creek and are just waiting for her replacement to be cleared by HR for Mrs. McNamara to move to Swiss.
6th grade Counselor - Interviews were held yesterday and we did submit a name to HR today.  The counselor is from Ohio, so we are looking at the end of September for a possible start date.
Pre-Algebra & Math 2 Advanced teacher (replacing Mrs. Collier) - We held interviews this past Tuesday and did not find anyone.  The position has been reposted.  Mrs. Dean, our new testing coordinator, will be teaching all the Silver & Black day courses until we have a replacement teacher. Mrs. Stackhouse, Assistant Principal, will be teaching the skinny class until we have a replacement teacher.

Duke TIP- 7th Grade Talent

Eligibility:
The student must be in the 7th grade.
The student must meet one of the following test score requirements:

2014 FCAT 2.0 5th Grade:  Reading ≥ 255, Math ≥ 254, Science ≥ 235

It is not too early to start thinking about getting your student's Tdap for 7th grade. There were about 130 students that 2 weeks before school started had not brought proof of the Tdap to us or received it. Please don't be that person! Once your student is 11 years old they can receive their Tdap which is required for entrance into the 7th grade. You will need to bring us proof of that shot on a Florida 680 shot record. No receipts will be accepted. If you have any questions call 547-8628 or email me at Joan.Beccard@stjohns.k12.fl.us
