PTSO is having a Labor Day Marathon for Magazine Sales. For every online order your child's name will be entered into a drawing to win a Movie Gift Card, I-tunes Gift Card, or a Aeropostale Gift Card. There will be one drawing during each lunch period on Wednesday, September 9th. All it takes is one entry, but you receive an entry for every order that is placed between 6pm Friday, September 4th to 9pm on Monday, September 7th. Entries are ONLY for online orders. PTSO will host their Annual Back to School Neon Bash on Friday, September 18th from 2-5pm. Tickets will be sold during all 3 lunches on the 16th, 17th, & 18th. Cost is $8 for non-members and $5 for PTSO members. Students will receive fun neon favors and will have fun being with their friends and enjoying the music played by the DJ. Concessions will be available, so students will need money if they want to purchase pizza, chips, candy, water, or soda.
7th & 8th grade students interested in becoming a new member of the National Junior Honor Society will apply at the end of the first quarter. Applications will be available the last week of October and will be due Friday, October 30
th. No late applications will be accepted. Further information will be provided in October.
We are still looking for 3 parent volunteers to work in a 6th grade science or world history class from 7:40am to 10:15am one day a week. If you can assist, please click on the link below for the sign-up genius.
ALL volunteers must be cleared through the district.
Swiss Point will host an informational meeting by district employees on Wednesday, September 9th at 1:30pm in our auditorium on the half-cent sales tax referendum. If you are avaiable, we encourage you to attend and bring a neighbor.
T-Shirt Contest for 8th graders! The 8th grade traditionally has a special t-shirt. This t-shirt is required for our GradVenture fieldtrip in May, but we order it in the fall, so students and teachers have it to wear the entire school year. The shirt has every 8th grade student's name listed on the back. For the front, we hold a design contest and the winning design will be on the front of the t-shirt. Rules: 1. The design needs to relate to Swiss Point or have a theme that fits being 8th graders. 2. The design must be black and white (no color). 3. The designer's name should be on the BACK of the drawing. 4. The design must be given to your homeroom teacher by Wednesday, September 16.
Personnel changes
Teacher for Advanced Language Arts 2 (replacing Mrs. Andenora). We have hired Mary Slaton, who will start this Tuesday, September 8th.
Teacher for Math 2 (replacing Sekora) - we have hired a teacher, Mrs. McNamara, from Durbin Creek and are just waiting for her replacement to be cleared by HR for Mrs. McNamara to move to Swiss.
6th grade Counselor - Interviews will be held this Thursday. We are hoping to recommend someone Friday and have them cleared by HR to start by the 21st.
Pre-Algebra & Math 2 Advanced teacher (replacing Mrs. Collier) - We will interview Tuesday evening and hope to recommend a candidate and have them cleared by HR to start on Monday the 21st.

Yearbooks are on sale now!!! The pre-sale ENDS Friday, September 11th. The price of the yearbook will go up after the 11th.
You can pre-order your yearbook online for only $35. Yearbooks will ONLY be sold online, so please do not send in cash or check. Students were given a 1/2 sheet flyer today in homeroom with the directions on how to order. Just in case the slip doesn't make it to you, the directions are below.

The NEON Bash is back and ready to GLO! Save the date for this annual popular event and get ready to PARTY with a live DJ, loud music and lots of GLOWING good fun! Duke TIP- 7th Grade Talent
Duke University Talent Identification Program (TIP) is conducting a 7th grade talent search. The program is designed to help families determine how advanced their students' academic abilities are and what level of educational challenge is appropriate. As part of the talent search enrollment, students will take the SAT or ACT as an above-level test. This allows students to have greater insight into their abilities and gives them a chance to preview a college entrance exam. Duke TIP also provides enrichment resources designed specifically for academically talented youth.
Eligibility:
The student must be in the 7th grade.
The student must meet one of the following test score requirements:
2014 FCAT 2.0 5th Grade: Reading ≥ 255, Math ≥ 254, Science ≥ 235
2015 FSA 6th Grade: ELA ≥ 95th percentile, Math ≥ 95th percentile
Score a minimum of 125 on a full scale or composite score on an approved IQ test that is not more than two years old.

Athletics

The Saint Johns Middle School Athletic Association ("SJMSAA") middle school sports program is not operated or sponsored by the St. Johns County School District. SJMSAA is an independent, private non-profit corporation, which uses District middle school names and facilities under a license agreement with the District, and which is solely responsible for the operation of the SJMSAA middle school sports program and its individual teams.
SJMSAA Raider Football
The Varsity football team beat Fruit Cove Middle school on Saturday. The JV fell short of a win.
Both JV and Varsity lost with varsity falling short by only 1 point.
Both teams play on Thursday, September 10th with Varsity playing Sebastian at 7:00 pm and JV playing at 5:00 pm verses Landrum
SJMSAA Raider Baseball
Fall tryouts coming in September. Registration for tryouts is now open! Specific dates for each school participating will be posted soon!
Swiss Point Volleyball The first volleyball games will be on Monday,September 14 at Liberty Pines starting with the girls at 5:30 and boys to follow. Go Raiders!
Swiss Point Flag Football Intramural
The first session of intramurals will begin on Tuesday, September 8, 2015. The sport will be Flag football for ALL grade levels. In order to participate, you must pick up a permission slip from a P.E. teacher or the front office. The permission slip must be returned by Tuesday, September 8, 2015 in order will to participate. The times will be from 2:00pm - 3:00pm on Tuesday and Thursday. Remember that everyone is allowed to participate in intramurals. If you have any questions please contact a P.E. teacher or call 547-8650.
Swiss Point Winterguard
Winterguard will be practicing for many weeks until their first competition later in the school year.
Swiss Point Girls Lacrosse Fall Academy
Swiss Point Middle School is excited to announce its first ever girls lacrosse "Fall Ball Academy" for 6th -8th grade girls interested in playing lacrosse. Beginner, intermediate and advanced players are all welcome to join! Come be a part of the fastest growing sport in the U.S.! We will be working on the fundamental skills of lacrosse in a positive and fun environment. Girls will participate in basic drills, games and scrimmages. There will be possible weekend clinic opportunities, including a clinic with local Bartram Trail high school players. Information for the fall academy is below.
