Message from Mrs. Kunze
The St. Johns County School District now has the ability to text through its mass notification system. This will enable principals and district staff to communicate with parents and families using voice, email and text messaging.
and complete the opt-out form. Once you have printed the form it should be returned to Switzerland Point Middle School for processing. While text messaging will not be the sole form of communication for any alert it may be used in conjunction with voice or email messages.
We have had several changes in faculty members lately due to various personal reasons.
Barbara Seaton, 6th grade & 7th grade counselor A-L, will leave Swiss Point Tuesday, September 1st to work at Gamble Rogers MS. We are currently advertising for a counselor and will keep you informed when we hire someone.
We have hired a teacher for 7th grade Math 2 - Elizabeth McNamara from Durbin Creek Elementary. We are working with Durbin on a start date, which hopefully will be soon.
Today was Mrs. Andenora's last day. She accepted a position coaching soccer at Flagler College, so she can stay home during the day with her 5 month old baby boy. We are interviewing for her replacement tomorrow. We are hoping to have someone in place in the next couple of weeks.
We are still looking for 4 parent volunteers to work in a 6th grade science or world history class from 7:40am to 10:15am one day a week. If you can assist, please click on the link below for the sign-up genius.
ALL volunteers must be cleared through the district.
We have had an unbelievable response for our Washington DC trip. At this time ALL 4 buses are full. We will create a waiting list for anyone else who would like to attend. Typically, there are a few families who will change their mind about the trip due to cost, poor grades, family emergencies, etc. Please email Mrs. Robbins at Deborah.Robbins@stjohns.k12.fl.us to be placed on the waiting list.
Today in homeroom your child was given the following items:
6th grade - fundraiser flyer & 5th grade Science score report
7th grade - fundraiser flyer & end of last year's report card if it was not picked up over the summer.
8th grade - fundraiser flyer & end of last year's report card along with Civics EOC score report if they were not picked up over the summer.
Please ask your child for these items.
Grades were updated today. We encourage parents and students to log into HAC to monitor grades. If there is a question or concern, please contact the teacher.
Swiss Point will host an informational meeting by district employees on Wednesday, September 9th at 1:30pm in our auditorium on the half-cent sales tax referendum. If you are avaiable, we encourage you to attend and bring a neighbor.

We had a great Scholastic Book Fair. Thank you to all the parents that came to help and who purchased books so the library could earn money to purchase books for the Media Center. A special thank you goes out to Heather Granby for doing a FANTASTIC job organizing this great event.
We have had many kids come into the Media Center this week to start collecting charms for reading Sunshine State Books. If you haven't started your collection yet, come on in and answer some questions about the books you have read and you can start. Recognition Awards are up on the wall of the Media Center. Congratulations to Skylar Kyle for being the first student to read ALL 15 Sunshine State Books!

Florida Agricultural Museum
Night At The Farm, August 29-August 30, 2015
Come spend the night at the Florida Agricultural Museum and enjoy the thrill of outdoor camping. Guests are asked to arrive at the museum at 4 pm to begin the evening's adventures. After you set up your own tent, dinner will be served. Following dinner, the evening's events will begin. Take a walk and a tractor ride around the property to help feed the farm animals, and step back in time at the 1890s homestead and country store. Later we will do some stargazing.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to vote for the name of our five week old Cracker calf. We know a camp out wouldn't be complete without a bonfire and s'mores. So pull up a bench and begin to form new friendships around the camp fire. It's a great way to spend time at the museum in a more personalized setting. Sunday morning we'll have breakfast with our farm animals then take down our tents and say goodbye to our new friends.
Please bring your own camping equipment as the museum does not have any for rent. Coolers with drinks and snacks are permitted -- however, please no alcoholic beverages; this is a family friendly event.
The cost is $40 per person, cash, check, Discover, MasterCard, American Express and Visa are accepted. Advance reservations are required. Breakfast and dinner are included with your admission fee. Please contact Debbie Milner at dmilner@floridaagmuseum.org for more information.
The museum is always looking for volunteers. If any of this sounds fascinating to you and you would like to become a part of Florida's historical past this is the place for you. For information, call 386-446-7630 or dmilner@floridaagmuseum.org
