Message from Mrs. Kunze
Congratulations to the SPMS Battle of the Book Team for winning the district competition again this year! The team was comprised of the following students:
Amanda Higley, Lindsey and Jordan Sabo, Camille Aguilar, Angela Ramsey , Skylar Kyle and Connor Searcy
St. Johns County has decided that the final course grade for students taking Algebra, Geometry, and Algebra 2 will be calculated by averaging the 4 quarter grades, since the EOCs will not count this year due to the validation process ordered by Governor Scott. The district has also decided NOT to recalculate scores in late September or early October when we do receive EOC scores. Passing the Algebra EOC is still a graduation requirement and passing the Geometry & Algebra 2 EOCs are still a requirment for earning the Scholar Diploma. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions or concerns about this.
We will host our Annual Spring Fling on Thursday, May 28th. In the past we have held this event outside in April after FCAT testing. Since it is later and hotter outside, we will hold the event in the gym. Students will enjoy a 45 minute lunch in the cafeteria or in the gym listening to some of their peers performing on stage. Snowcones will be sold on the patio for Raider Bucks. Students will receive their yearbook on the 28th in homeroom, so this is a great time to enjoy music and to socialize with their peers. Students who would like to perform during Spring Fling, need to see Mrs. Kunze or sign-up next week during all 3 lunches.
Yearbooks will be distributed on Thursday, May 28th during homeroom. This year all yearbooks were printed with the child's name on the front cover. Please encourage your child to also write their name on the inside and back covers. Unfortunately, we do not have any extra yearbooks to sell.
Thursday, May 28th is a White day schedule and in addition to Spring Fling, we will have locker clean-out. Students may donate any gently used items to the St.Johns Educational Foundation - INK!
White day schedule for Thursday, May 28th
INK! (St. Johns Educational Foundation - Investing In Kids!) would like to invite you to attend one of their Community Conversations for Education. The goal is to bring stakeholders together to identify solutions for continuous improvement of public edeucation for all students and a stronger, healthier county. Our local meeting will be Tuesday, May 26th at 5pm at the Bartram Trail Library. Please RSVP to 547-7120 as seating is limited.

Camp Healing Powers is an overnight camp experience (Friday night - Sunday morning) where children have the opportunity to meet with other campers who have experienced the loss of a loved one. Time together helps them realize that what they are feeling is a normal part of grief - and that they are not alone. Activities are designed so they can explore and express their emotions, and develop coping skills to help them navigate through the grief journey. The camp is open for children between the ages of 7 and 17, and if the death has occurred at least 3 months prior to the camp date (but no longer than two years). Pre-camp assessments are required and conducted by Community Hospice bereavement counselors who meet with you and your child prior to camp to gain an understanding of your child's perception of the loss and its effect on all areas of his/her life. The next camp is scheduled for September 11-13, 2015, and the deadline for registration is August 28th. For more information, on Camp Healing Powers, please call 407-7001. This is offered by Community Hospice www.communityhospice.com
Also, Haven Hospice will offer a day camp for children (age 6-12) on Saturday, August 22 (9:30 - 4:00) at Shepherd of the Woods Lutheran Church (7860 Southside Blvd, Jacksonville). Please call 467-7423 for information, or go online at www.havenhospice.org

I will make a copy for you and then Guidance will enter it into the computer. If you choose to go to a walk in clinic you must ask the clinic to put your child's Tdap shot on a Florida 680 form. A receipt from the clinic with not be accepted in lieu of the Florida 680 form. If you choose to go to the St. John's County Health Department, they have moved to a new location.
