Message from Mrs. Kunze

Congratulations! The St. Johns County delegation had another outstanding trip to Tallahassee for the Florida State History Fair.  As a county, the number of students sent to Tallahassee increased by 50% to 30 total students. SPMS had 5 students attend the Florida State History Fair: Camille Aguilar (7th), Sanya Bansal (7th), Aidan Mather (7th), Joshua Zalkan (7th), and Hayden Wardell (6th).

SJCSD had its first ever project be selected to advance to the National History Day Competition in Washington D.C..  Only the top two projects statewide from each category advance to nationals.  Aidan Mather, a 7th grader from Switzerland Point Middle School will be going to Washington D.C. for her website "Florence Nightingale: A Leader with a Legacy".  Way to go Aidan!  Good luck at Nationals!

The 8th grade semi-formal dance will be on Friday, May 29th from 7-10pm at San Juan Del Rio.  All 8th graders will be given a flier in homeroom Monday.  Tickets are on sale now for $25 each until May 20th.  NO Tickets will be sold after May 20th, so please complete the bottom section of the flier and return to homeroom teacher with $25. check asap.

Board Positions Next Year!

The Nominating Committee is working to fill next year's board positions.  Most positions are open for next year as we have several parents moving on to high school.  WE NEED YOU!  Each week we'll highlight another opportunity.  Please consider what you might like to chair or co-chair.  Without YOU there is no PTSO.  Email us at SPMSPTSO@hotmail.com if you're interested.

Guidance News
Guidance Counselors
Barbara Seaton-6th grade and 7th graders with last names beginning with A-L.
Tanya Moseley- 7th graders, last name ending in M-Z and the entire 8th grade.
Lisa Mason- Testing Coordinator/School Counselor

Moseley's Food for Thought

If your child is considering taking an online course please contact their guidance counselor before enrolling them, as there is a lot of information we need to give ahead of the registration process.  If a student fails a core academic course (Math, Science, Social Studies or LA) for the year, he/she will have to take their lowest semester online through St. Johns Virtual School over the summer.  This summer is only 9 weeks long and a semester is 18 weeks, so this will be a lot of work to complete over their summer break.  The best solution is for the student to do their work and study for their summative exams during the next four weeks!  If your child is struggling in a core academic course please encourage and help them to get organized, do their homework, get a study buddy, check Edmodo and look at the downloads provided by the teacher, ask for help from the teacher and stay after school for help if possible.
