Message from Mrs. Kunze

A big thank you to all who participated in Student Council's PJ/Hat Day!  They raised $551 for Swiss Point's Relay for Life Team.  Way to go!

PTSO will host the 2nd Annual Color Us Crazy Run & Fun on May 1st.  See the PTSO section below for more details.

Swiss Point's Spring Musical, Hairspray, (Jr version) will be performed this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 7pm each night. Tickets are $7 and can be purchased at the door or at lunch all week. We hope that you can join us to watch a wonderful show and to support the 53 students who have worked very hard on this production.

Swiss Point's PTSO will host the Annual Spring Book Fair April 10th through the 17th.  Students will visit the book fair through their Language Arts class and can visit during lunch.  The spring book fair is a great time to stock up on some great books for reading this summer.

Our 3rd Annual Night of the Arts will be Friday, April 17th from 6pm to 8:30pm throughout the entire building.  Please mark your calendars, because you will not want to miss this event.  Student work will be displayed throughout the building, there will be hands-on activities, along with performances by Chorus, Drama, both Jazz Ensembles, and Winterguard.  This is a wonderful night of celebrating creative outlets at Swiss Point!

In one week we will start administering the FSA Reading with FSA Math immedidately following then EOCs for Algebra, Geometry, and Civics.  We need your help as proctors!    We know that everyone is busy and we truly appreciate the few hours that you can give us here and there over the next several weeks.  As a small token of our appreciation, we will offer a weekly raffle of a $10 gift card.  Every time you volunteer during the week, your name will be entered.  We will draw every Friday and announce the winner in the Raider Rap.

Board Positions Next Year!

The Nominating Committee is working to fill next year's board positions.  Most positions are open for next year as we have several parents moving on to high school.  WE NEED YOU!  Each week we'll highlight another opportunity.  Please consider what you might like to chair or co-chair.  Without YOU there is no PTSO.  Email us at SPMSPTSO@hotmail.com if you're interested.

PRESIDENT - This position is not as time consuming as it is in elementary school, and really serves as more of a support person to the other committees.  It's a great way to help support the school, our students and fellow parent volunteers.

BUSINESS PARTNERS - Do you have creative ideas on how to support local businesses?  Know a ton of people and want to help?  We're looking for an energetic volunteer to spearhead the business partner committee and find win-win partnerships with local businesses.

Open Board Positions: President, VP Fundraising, VP Membership, Business Partners, Character Counts, Swiss Point Cares

Moseley's Food for Thought

April is Alcohol Responsibility Month!  It is designed to unite students under a common goal of increasing awareness about the health and safety risks associated with alcohol.  Mrs. Moseley is in the process of teaching an Alcohol lesson to all 8th grade students through their History class. If you have an 8th grader, ask them about what they learned from the lesson!  It will be a great discussion starter for you and your child!  Some good information can be found on the following website from Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility for adults, teens and even elementary age children: http://responsibility.org/

Changes in Personal Information

Parents, your help is needed. I spend many hours each week calling parents when students are sick, injured, etc. However, I find when I call home numbers I  often get a message that says "this number is disconnected." I call work numbers and they say "they have not worked here in 5 years." Then your student says " my parents got new cell numbers but I don't know what they are." Please notify our computer operator, Norma Miller, at 547-8626 for changes in your contact numbers. You can also e-mail
Norma.miller@stjohns.k12.fl.us  We will also change it on your paper copy emergency card.

Pinwheel 2nd Annual Parade" March against Child Abuse - April 11th.  April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month and since 1989, people nationwide wear the blue ribbon and carry blue pinwheels in April to create awareness of the need to keep kids safe and families strong.

The "2nd Annual Parade" Pinwheel March against Child Abuse will be on April 11th at the SAYS Hutson Family Campus from 10:00-11:30am. There will be a ceremonial "parade" around the campus, free children's activites, parenting information and people on hand to answer questions about resources available in St. Johns County.

Also Luli's Cupcakes will bring their mobile cupcake house with cake pops for sale.  Beverages and snacks will be provided by SAYS.

"April is a time to celebrate the important role that communities play in protecting children," says Schuyler Siekfer, SAYS Executive Director. School and community groups are welcome to participate. For more information, contact Robin Burchfield at robinb@sayskids.org or 904-829-1770.

Community Garden Day - April 11th

Calling all gardeners!  Please come to SAYS, immediately following the Pinwheel Parade Against Child Abuse, from 11:30am - 1:30pm to help us with our Butterfly Garden and Sauls Family Vegetable Garden.

No experience is necessary.  This is a great way to earn community service hours and have fun at the same time.
