Message from Mrs. Kunze
Remember that we have a 4-day week. Friday, April 2nd is a holiday! Student Council is sponsoring a PJ/Hat Day on Thursday, April 1st. Students are asked to bring a $1 donation for each if they chose to participate. All proceeds will benefit Swiss Point's Relay for Life team (American Cancer Society).
Report cards were distributed to students today. Included with the report cards is Middle Years: Working Together for School Success. Click here to view the information.
PTSO will host the 2nd Annual Color Us Crazy Run & Fun on May 1st. See the PTSO section below for more details.
The high schools will be here next Tuesday and Wednesday, March 31st & April 1st, for 8th graders to turn in course registration forms for next year. Bartram and Creekside will be here both days and students will see a counselor during their social studies class. Nease will only be here on Tuesday. If parents plan on attending the appointment, they will need to sign-in in the main office and have identification with them. Mrs. Moseley has received many questions, so below is some additional information that she thought might be helpful.
*The appointment meeting is HERE at Swiss Pont, not at the high school.
*If students have already taken a segment (or two) of HOPE, HOPE will still be listed on the course recommendations because the high schools did not look at transcripts. Students just need to tell the counselor during the appointment that they have already taken HOPE or they plan on taking it this summer. Students will need to have an elective chosen to take its place.
*If the parent cannot come to the appointment, that is okay. The parent just needs to sign the pink sheet and send it with the student to the appointment.
*If a student has lost their registration packet, the parent has to contact (via email) the registrar at their high school. Swiss Point does NOT have a copy. The registrars for each high school are BTHS = Aretha Graham, CHS = Linda Carnall, Nease = Vanessa Power
8th grade dance
After receiving a few emails over spring break asking about the dress code for the dance, I realized that we had not published anything. Last week I stated that strapless dresses were not allowed. I guess I should be happy that parents are reading the Raider Rap, but it is extremely disappointing that parents would get so upset and actually send rude emails demanding that I change the dress code. Thank you to the few of you who sent nice emails requesting that I reconsider and politely explaining that several girls have already purchased dresses that are non-returnable. Since I was politely asked to reconsider, I will. Strapless dresses may be worn to the 8th grade dance. My intent was never to "spoil the fun" for the 8th grade girls or "ruin something that they have looked forward to for 3 years." The best part of chaperoning the 8th grade dance every year is watching all the students dance and have such a great time. It is the only dance that I have ever chaperoned in 23 years where ALL students end up dancing before the night is over. If you have already purchased or plan on purchasing a strapless dress, my advice is to have your daughter lift her arms and move around in the dress. If she has to pull or hold the top of the dress, I would not purchase it or see if spaghetti straps can be added. In addition, I would not spend much money on shoes. Since everyone is dancing, the shoes are not worn long. The 8th grade dance is a wonderful event and something that I look forward to every year. I want the students to have a great time together before leaving to attend different high schools. Thank you to those of you who learned the lesson from your grandmother that honey gets you more than vinegar.

RAIDER LEADER: We are so proud to recognize strong leadership among our students here at Switzerland Point. Students show exemplary leadership through our many clubs and sports. I take great pleasure in highlighting this student, as nominated by a club/sport sponsor, to receive this recognition. The winner is given a certificate, some Raider Bucks, and highlighted in the Raider Rap. I congratulate LINSLEY HORN on being named a Raider Leader! Linsley has been the sound booth person for the Dreams Come True talent show for the last 3 years. She has even trained the new person for next year and is always dependable and organized in working with her fellow Dreams Come True student members. We congratulate Linsley on being named a Raider Leader!
Moseley's Food for Thought
As we begin the last quarter of this school year, here are some useful tips to help your child do well:
- Make sure your child has a study/homework space that is quiet and free from distractions.
- Teach your child to be organized; don't assume they know how.
- Stay on top of your child's schoolwork; make sure your child is checking Edmodo for class information and HAC to see their progress.
- Stay informed about school activities and procedures; read the Raider Rap!

Changes in Personal Information
Parents, your help is needed. I spend many hours each week calling parents when students are sick, injured, etc. However, I find when I call home numbers I often get a message that says "this number is disconnected." I call work numbers and they say "they have not worked here in 5 years." Then your student says " my parents got new cell numbers but I don't know what they are." Please notify our computer operator, Norma Miller, at 547-8626 for changes in your contact numbers. You can also e-mail

St. Augustine Youth Services to Observe April National Child Abuse Prevention Month
Pinwheel 2nd Annual Parade" March against Child Abuse - April 11th. April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month and since 1989, people nationwide wear the blue ribbon and carry blue pinwheels in April to create awareness of the need to keep kids safe and families strong.
The "2nd Annual Parade" Pinwheel March against Child Abuse will be on April 11th at the SAYS Hutson Family Campus from 10:00-11:30am. There will be a ceremonial "parade" around the campus, free children's activites, parenting information and people on hand to answer questions about resources available in St. Johns County.
The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office will land their helicopter (pending weather conditions), Sheriff Explorers will be providing information about the program and passing out fingerprint kits to parents, and two deputies from the Crisis Negotiation Team will be here with their command center.
Also Luli's Cupcakes will bring their mobile cupcake house with cake pops for sale. Beverages and snacks will be provided by SAYS.
"April is a time to celebrate the important role that communities play in protecting children," says Schuyler Siekfer, SAYS Executive Director. "Everyone's participation is critical. Focusing on ways to build and promote the protective factors, in every interaction with children and families, is the best thing our community can do to prevent child maltreatment and promote optimal child development."
School and community groups are welcome to participate. For more information, contact Robin Burchfield at robinb@sayskids.org or 904-829-1770.
