Messages from Mrs. Kunze

A HUGE THANK YOU to all who participated in the food drive.  We collected 500 items for the Fruit Cove Lutheran Food Bank.  Way to go Raiders!!

Congratulations to students who participated in the International Thespian Society District 1 Festival last Saturday at Keystone Heights.  Out of 26 entries, Swiss Point received 11 Superiors and 6 Excellents and 1 Critics Choice!  For the first time competing, our Thespian Raiders were AMAZING!!  A big thanks to Mr. Segal for his continued dedication and support to our students.

It is hard to believe that we are in the 2nd quarter already. This quarter is much shorter in length, so please help your child stay focused and seek help early if needed.  The quarter exams will be administered December 16th through the 19th.  It is very important that your child is present for these exams.  Make-up exams will be administered in the afternoon of Friday, December 19th and when we return from the Winter Break in January.

The exam schedule is...

Tuesday, Dec. 16th - exams in Silver 2 & Silver 3

Wednesday, Dec. 17th - exams in Black 2 & Silver 4

Thursday, Dec. 18th - exams in Black 3 & Black 4

Friday, Dec. 19th - exam in Skinny & make-up exams

We received news from the FL DOE on Thursday that a few changes have been made for the Spring 2015 FSA Writing. For the 2015 administration, the FSA Writing will be paper/pencil for 6th & 7th grades.  The 8th grade FSA Writing will be administered on the computer.

During our last quarterly behavior expectation assembly, we talked to the boys about a problem we are having with boys urinating on the bathroom floors.  This is not being done accidently.  We have boys that are purposefully urinating all over the floor.  We asked the boys to tell us if they walked into the restroom and there was urine on the floor, so we could look at the cameras to see who went into the restroom last. Unfortunately, students are not telling us so we have been unsuccessful in figuring out who is doing this.  With the number of restrooms involved, we think that several boys are participating.  In addition to urinating on the floors, now they have started putting papertowels or toilet paper in the urinals and toilets to cause them to overflow.  Last week several restrooms had to be closed until the facilities could be unclogged.  If you have a son, I am asking that you please talk to him about how disgusting this behavior is. Please encourage him to talk to the dean if he knows of anyone doing this, sees anything, or walks into a restroom that has been vandalized.  The only way that this incredibly immature behavior is going to stop is if those not participating get tired of using a nasty restroom or having to walk to find an open restroom.  Thank you in advance for your support.

Does your child ever stay after school?

If so, please read below so you are aware of our new policy starting Monday, October 20th

Students that are staying after school for any reason, make-up work, review session, club meeting or sports, are under the sponsoring teacher's supervision until the parent arrives.  Students are NOT allowed to sit outside or in the main office unsupervised waiting for their ride.  Arrangements MUST to be made in advance if your child plans on staying after school or they should not stay.  If a child is not picked up within 30 minutes of the designated pick-up time, the student will be sent to Beyond the Bell in the library.  The parent will then be charged $1 a minute until the student is picked up.  After 3pm, teachers are giving their personal time and it is frustrating when they have to sit with a student for 30 minutes, 60 minutes, or sometimes longer waiting on a student to be picked up.  We have to make changes to our policy or teachers will stop offering after school activities and we do not want that to happen.

Beyond the Bell is open until 6pm and does offer a punch card option that can be used if your child needs to stay after school and be supervised until you can pick-up.  PLEASE see the Beyond The Bell section below.

Volunteer Information

Every year we have a Holiday Store for students to purchase gifts for family members for the holidays using Raider Bucks.  The store is open during lunch in December.  Some of the items are new, but most are gently used items that have been donated.  The students really enjoy the Holiday Store and like the excitement of being able to purchase a gift for a parent or sibling without anyone knowing, so it is a complete surprise.

If you wish to donate items, we will take Christmas mugs, Christmas plates, nice dishes, ornaments, jewelry, candles, hand soap/lotion, ties, purses, books, team paraphernalia, toys, etc - basically, anything that you don't want.  We are always in need of gifts for dads.  As you are cleaning closets or getting ready for the holidays, please donate your items to us. You can bring items in at any time and give them to Cynthia Casper in guidance.

Volunteers Needed

The Holiday Gift Shop will be opening soon and volunteers will be needed to help with "setting up the store"!  A SignUp Genius will be going out in November to ask for help with set up, running and cleaning up of the store.

Proctors Needed

In December the students will be taking District Assessment Exams.  There are many days needed for proctors to assist in monitoring students.  The SignUp Genius will go out with the Holiday Store request.  It will be advertised shortly.

Moseley's Food for Thought

As we approach the holidays, there may be Switzerland Point families in need of some assistance due to financial struggles.  Please contact Mrs. Moseley

asap if your family could use a basket of items to help make a Thanksgiving meal and/or help with gifts for the children for Christmas.  We are able to help provide these things and would LOVE to give a helping hand - and it's all anonymous!

Seaton's Corner

As you know, we collect (anonymously) questions/problems from students during the year pertaining to middle school life in a similar fashion as "Dear Abby" articles.  We call ours "Dear Raider Aide".  Many times we will have a student give the advice.  So that makes it even more fun and a unique learning experience for all!  Here's our anonymous question/problem for this article:

"Dear Raider Aide, why do we have to have a dress code here at school?"

(Response written by Angelika Avgerinos, 7th grader):  We need to have a dress code so that we can be safe, such as wearing safe shoes (instead of flip flops).  Also wearing appropriate clothes helps us take school seriously.  And when we grow up and get a job, we will be used to dressing the right way.
