Messages from Mrs. Kunze

Congratulations to the students who sold enough magazines to earn a Limo Ride and Brucci lunch.  The permissions slips were handed out this past week and need to be returned to the main office by this Monday, October 20th.

Congratulations also to Joe Tanza and Cal Fischer as they placed 1st and 2nd in the St. Johns County Special Olympics Bowling Championships!  Great Job!

Does your child ever stay after school?

If so, please read below so you are aware of our new policy starting Monday, October 20th

Students that are staying after school for any reason, make-up work, review session, club meeting or sports, are under the sponsoring teacher's supervision until the parent arrives.  Students are NOT allowed to sit outside or in the main office unsupervised waiting for their ride.  Arrangements MUST to be made in advance if your child plans on staying after school or they should not stay.  If a child is not picked up within 30 minutes of the designated pick-up time, the student will be sent to Beyond the Bell in the library.  The parent will then be charged $1 a minute until the student is picked up.  After 3pm, teachers are giving their personal time and it is frustrating when they have to sit with a student for 30 minutes, 60 minutes, or sometimes longer waiting on a student to be picked up.  We have to make changes to our policy or teachers will stop offering after school activities and we do not want that to happen.

Beyond the Bell is open until 6pm and does offer a punch card option that can be used if your child needs to stay after school and be supervised until you can pick-up.  PLEASE see the Beyond The Bell section below.

7th grade Civics field trip to Tallahassee

Originally, we had 4 buses scheduled for the field trip on Wednesday, January 7th.  We were out of seats and still had students who wanted to attend, so we have added a 2nd day.  Mrs. Miller's students will go to Tallahassee on Tuesday, January 13th, so this opens seats for Anagnostou's, Bower's and Dowling's students for the January 7th trip. Seats for both days are still limited, so students need to get their field trip form and money to their Civics teacher ASAP to reserve their seat.

Washington DC Update

The final payment of $140 payment is due Friday, Oct. 31st.  There are still seats remaining on the 4th bus, if your child would like to attend.

RAIDER LEADER:  We are so proud to recognize strong leadership among our students here at Switzerland Point.  Students show exemplary leadership through our many clubs and sports.  There are two exceptional students in our Volleyball program that we would like to recognize:  Dwayne Harvey and Alex Murphy.  Dwayne always tries his best out on the court and has amazing leadership skills.  He has a subtle, but effective way of communicating with others to help them achieve their maximum potential!   Alex Murphy always gives 100% and she leads by example.  She is also a very positive person both on and off the court.  Congratulations to Dwayne and Alex being named a Raider Leader!

X-BOX!!!!!!!!!!  Wii!!!!!!!!!!!!!   X-BOX!!!!!!!!!!!!  Wii!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   X-BOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Media Center would LOVE an X-Box or Wii or even both with some games or two for some fun and incentives for the students.  If anyone can donate this to the school it would be greatly appreciated.  Having some gaming fun in the Media Center is just another step to make the Media Center the hub of the school.

There are lots of new books coming into the Media Center and I am placing reviews on my Edmodo page a few times a week.  My code for Edmodo is v6xhte if you would like to join and hear about the new books and happenings in the Media Center.

Beyond the Bell

There has been some confusion with the Beyond the Bell program. I would like to clarify. Beyond the Bell is not a "drop in" program.  Students cannot wait in the library for parents, work on projects, or "hang out" if they are not paying members of Beyond the Bell.  If you would like to participate in the program "every now and then", please pre-purchase a $300 punch card with 20 visits (good for the entire school year). You can visit the SPMS website and search "Beyond the Bell registration form".  There is a non-refundable $75 registration fee.  Please download this form and prepay all fees before attending Beyond the Bell.

If you have any  questions, contact at Christine.Southworth@stjohns.k12.fl.us or by phone at 547-8629.  The Beyond the Bell program runs from 2:00-6:00 pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and 1:00-6:00 pm on Wednesdays.

If you are a Beyond the Bell member, and you do NOT want to use your punch card for a day your student is staying late, YOUR STUDENT SHOULD NOT SIGN IN AT BEYOND THE BELL.  The student should stay with the teacher they are working with and you should make arrangements with that teacherIF your child signs in, your card will be punched.

Prepayment for NOVEMBER was 10/15/14. If you have not already done so, payment is now overdue.
