Messages from Mrs. Kunze
It is hard to believe that we just finished the 5th week of school. Hopefully, everyone is logging into HAC to monitor grades. If you have questions about grades, please contact the teacher first. If you have found that your child is going home and not doing their homework because they are home alone, you might want to consider our Beyond the Bell program. Students can stay five days a week for $200 a month plus a $75 registration fee. A certified teacher can assist with homework question from 3-6pm.
Washington DC Update
I was worried about filling 3 buses for the DC trip yesterday because there were 11 seats remaining on bus 2. This morning before school, we completely filled bus 2 AND the 50 seats on bus 3! I started a wait list to see how many more students were interested to know if we could add a 4th bus. As of this afternoon I have 15 students for bus 4. PLEASE send in the $250 deposit on Monday if your child wants to attend. All paperwork will be given to students in homeroom on October 1st.

Character Counts luncheon - a huge success!
We had 55 students who received Character Counts Awards from teacher nominations today! How awesome! A HUGE shout out to Mrs. Colleen Wood, the PTSO president for securing PDQ lunches for each of these students! What a treat! The students were so excited, not just for the awards they received from their teacher but for a really 'cool' lunch! The other students in the cafeteria were quite envious! Congratulations to these 55 students for their exemplary character! If your child received an award, please check it out to see what their teacher wrote about them! Thank you again PTSO!
Seaton's Corner
It's hard to believe that we are already in the middle of first quarter! As a reminder, because we do not print out paper copies of the Interim Reports, parents need to log into their child's HAC (Home Access) account to see the current grades. If you have problems logging into HAC, please call Ms. Casper at 547-8627. You will be able to see which assignments were not turn in and also his/her Summative grades (i.e. tests and projects).

What You Should Know for the 2014-2015 Influenza Season
Click here to view an article from the CDC- Centers for Disease Control and Prevention regarding the flu season.
Helpful Information Regarding the Enterovirus
Enterovirus basics
1 . There are many kinds of enteroviruses, including coxsackieviruses, echoviruses, polioviruses, the hepatitis A virus, and enterovirus D68. These viruses are common and infect millions of people every year. They can infect anyone, but they're more likely to cause illnesses in infants, children, and teens who haven't developed immunity against the virus, and people with weakened immune systems.
2 . EV-D68 causes respiratory illness, and the virus can be found in respiratory secretions such as saliva and mucus. The virus likely spreads from person to person when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or touches contaminated surfaces.
3. There is no vaccine for preventing EV-D68, but you can help protect yourself and your students by following these steps:
- Wash hands often with soap and warm water for 20 seconds, especially before lunch or after recess or using the bathroom. Make sure to clean in between the fingers and under the nails, where germs can collect.
- Avoid touching the eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
- Avoid sharing utensils.
- Disinfect frequently touched surfaces, such as desktops and doorknobs.
- Teach students how to cough safely - into their elbow, not their hands.
4 . No antiviral medications are currently available for EV-D68. But symptoms such as fever and muscle aches can be relieved while the infection runs its course, which often takes as little as a day or two. However, some people with severe respiratory illness may need to be hospitalized.
