Messages from Mrs. Kunze

We made it through the first week!  Students have done a great job getting into their locker and getting to classes.

Mark your calendars!

MS Parent 101 Night for 6th grade parents and others new to Swiss Point MS.  This Thursday, August 28th at 7pm in the auditorium.

Open House for  7th & 8th grade - Tuesday, September 2nd starting at 6pm.

Open House for 6th grade - Thursday, September 4th starting at 6pm.

Edmodo

Your child should have setup an Edmodo account this week.  If you want to setup a parent account, you need the parent code that can be found on your child's home page.  Our suggestion is NOT to setup a parent account and to just use your child's username and password. The parent view does not have access to the calendar and other features.  The best solution to decrease confusion is to just use your child's account.

If your child did not join all of their classes, he/she must get the Edmodo code from their teacher.

EVERY student needs to join the Swiss Point MS 2014-2015 group.  I manage this group, so I put the daily rotation on the calendar along with school events.  The code to join the Swiss Point group is v8r3ui.  Letters are ALWAYS lowercase in Edmodo codes.

Your child  needs to go to settings to ensure the time zone is set on Eastern Standard Time.  If not, this will affect the calendar view.

SAC Volunteers

We need parents who want to be a part of the School Advisory Council.  Members meet once a month, typically after school from 3:30pm to 5pm.  If you are interested, please email our SAC Chair and teacher, Sarah Ehlert, at [email protected]  The first SAC meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 17th at 3:30pm.

Wednesday, August 27th

On Wednesday, students will attend grade level assemblies to be inspired to sell magazines for the PTSO magazine fundraiser and to listen to the Dean, Ms. Burney, and Assistant Principal, Ms. Breger, discuss SPMS Behavior Expectations. In the afternoon after all assemblies and lunches, we will complete required drills - fire, bomb threat, and intruder.  You may want to talk to your child about the intruder drill.  Students are supposed to hide in the classroom and remain SILENT. Adults will walk around banging on doors listening for noise and trying to get into the classroom.  The students are supposed to remain silent, so the intruder would think no one was in the room and move on.  Every year, we have students who get really upset during this drill and cry.  It is only a drill, but we are banging on the doors and trying to get in.  We hope that we never have a lockdown scenerio, but if we do students need to know what is expected of them.

Parent Drop-off & Pick-up

Students can be dropped off starting at 7:10am in the mornings.  They will sit in the library until 7:30am when students are released from the buses.  The parent drop-off line is extremely busy in the morning, so we encourage your child to ride the bus if they are eligible for that service.  If you drive your child to school, we ask that he/she be ready to exit the vehichle quickly when you stop in the loop.  Please say your good-byes and give kisses while waiting to turn into the drop-off loop.

When dropping off or picking up, please do not block the entrance to the neighborhood, The Colony.  Residents have been complaining that they can not get in or out.  Also, please do not pull in the grass at the entrance of The Preserve to avoid the line and drop-off your child.  This is unsafe and destroying the entrance of this neighborhood.

Dress Code

PLEASE ensure that your child is wearing appropriate clothing for school.  Shorts and skirts can not be shorter than 4" above the knee.  Tops for girls need to provide full coverage. Strapless tops with a cardigan over it is not allowed.
