Messages from Mrs. Kunze

It is hard to believe that the school year is over.  It seems like just a few weeks ago students were picking up schedules and textbooks.  Our students and teachers have worked extremely hard this year and our test scores reflect their efforts.  I am so proud of everyone!

We had the 8th grade awards ceremony yesterday morning and the 8th grade dance last night.  Thank you to all who attended and your understanding and patience as we literally squeezed everyone into the gym.  The ceremony and dance were both a wonderful way to celebrate the end of middle school for these 8th graders.  A HUGE thank you to Holly Cioffi, Debora McCarty, and Annette McIntosh for organizing the ENTIRE 8th grade dance.  These ladies did a fabulous job and we will miss them tremendously as they move on to high school!

Pictures from the awards ceremony can be purchased from Leonard's online at www.schpix.com

8th grade slideshow from the awards ceremony can be purchased at Swiss Point for $5.

I would like to thank all of you for being such wonderful, supportive parents who value education.  Swiss Point could not be as successful as we are without you.

I hope everyone finds some time to relax and unwind this summer!

Does your child need to practice their typing skills this summer?

We suggest using www.typingweb.com

We use this free online program here at Swiss Point in our computer classes.  Students need to create an account if they don't already have one.  The account can be linked to a teacher later.  The program does a great job of tracking student progess. Practicing for 15 to 20 minutes every day will greatly increase their typing skills.

Florida Standards

As you know some changes were made to the Common Core Standards for Florida, so students will be taught the Florida Standards next year.  These new Florida Standards will have a new test written by American Institutes for Research (AIR) which we will administer spring of 14-15.  AIR will be field testing Florida's new assessment in Utah this fall.  On the Utah Department of Education website there are practice tests available that we have asked our teachers to take.  I think it would be beneficial for parents to see these practice tests as well, as the assessments require students to complete performance tasks.  To take the practice tests, cut and paste the web address below into CHROME.  Leave Guest User and Session info alone on the login screen and click sign in.  On the next page select a grade level then click yes.  You can take a practice Writing, Math, Language Arts & Listening or Science assessment.

Blood Shortage Appeal

Since the holidays we have been either short or critical on most blood types. On a national level, blood donations have been trending downward, but usage continues to stay at high levels.   If we have a large need like we did last week when Mayo performed 3 O+ liver transplants in one day, we can easily become critically low on any given blood type. Please contact the Blood Alliance at www.igiveblood.com or call 824-1891.
