Guidance Counselors
Barbara Seaton-6th grade and 7th graders with last names beginning with A-J.
Tanya Moseley- 7th graders, last name ending in K-Z and the entire 8th grade.
Camp Safe Haven
Camp Safe Haven is a free, grief support camp for children ages 6-12 who have lost someone close to them. This is a camp that is designed to help children understand their feelings of loss and find peace. The trained staff and volunteers provide an opportunity for fun and therapeutic activities which will help them work through their feelings of grief. This camp is open to any child who has lost a loved one. The loved one did not have to be a patient of Haven Hospice in order for the child to attend. They support all those in our communities who have suffered a loss.

Moseley's Food For Thought
All of us at school are looking forward to summer break, but there is still work to be done! Parents, please encourage your child to keep up the hard work and effort these last few weeks of school, especially with semester exams coming up! These exams are worth 20% of their Semester Two grade! Suggestion: Post a May/June calendar on the fridge to mark important dates and exams. This may help motivate your child to see the end is near and to make every day count!
Seaton's Corner
As you know, we occasionally collect anonymous questions from our students and answer them similar to "Dear Abby" articles. Below is a submitted question from a 6th grade student:
Dear Raider Aide, "What will the Art classes be like next year? I love Art!" Great question! Both of our SPMS art teachers contributed to our answer. First of all, middle school art classes should be all about fun and creativity! Don't worry if you feel that you do not have special artistic talents. In the 7th grade, you will learn about the use of different art materials and techniques, along with the many basic principles of art. You'll do lots of projects involved in drawing and painting techniques, along with working with clay! Then, if you choose Art for the 8th grade year ("Advanced Art"), you'll be given more creative freedom to explore these topics. In that class, you'll delve deeper into processes such as drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, graphic design, illustration, and mixed media.

If your student is diagnosed with Conjunctivitis(pink eye) they may return 24 hours after the treatment has begun. If your health care provider decides not to treat your student, a note from the health care provider is needed.
Current 6th grade parents! NEVER TOO EARLY!
It is never too early to get your child their Tdap shot, 7th grade immunization requirement. As soon as they have their 11th birthday they can get their Tdap shot. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to call me. This school year we had 108 students that did not have their Tdap two weeks before school was to start! Please don't wait till the last minute! This shot must be documented on a Florida Certification of Immunization.
To all the 6th grade parents who have turned in the shot records for their student who has received their Tdap shot. Keep up the good work!

Applicants Interested in Serving on SJC Planning & Zoning
The St. Johns County School District is seeking applicants interested in serving on the St. Johns County Planning and Zoning Agency (PZA).
Florida growth management legislation requires all counties to have a School Board appointment as a non-voting member to participate in discussions on rezoning amendments to the land use plan that impact density. Applicant must be a resident of St. Johns County. Selection will be based on a number of factors including the applicant's involvement in the county and in public education. Deadline for applications is noon on March 31.
Each applicant will need to attend the workshop with the School Board on Tuesday, May 6 at 8:30 am. The School Board plans to make its appointment at its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, May 13 at 9 am.
Applications may be obtained on the School District Website at www.stjohns.k12.fl.us under "What's New" or by calling Marcia Holmes, executive secretary for Facilities Planning & Growth Management, at 547-7680 or in person at the School Board Administration building at 47 Orange Street, St. Augustine.

Blood Shortage Appeal
Since the holidays we have been either short or critical on most blood types. On a national level, blood donations have been trending downward, but usage continues to stay at high levels. If we have a large need like we did last week when Mayo performed 3 O+ liver transplants in one day, we can easily become critically low on any given blood type. Please contact the Blood Alliance at www.igiveblood.com or call 824-1891.
