THANK YOU to all of our volunteers!!! We can not administer all of these exams without your help.

Girls need to ensure that their tops are high enough to cover everything - no cleavage. Thank you in advance for your support by ensuring your child is dressed appropriately.

SAC Needs Assessment Survey
Each year we ask parents, students & staff to complete a Needs Assessment Survey. We use this survey to help us make improvements within the school. For the next few Fridays I will respond to some of the concerns from the survey.
There were several complaints similar to this one...............
There is absolutely too much homework overall and massive amounts of content to study to prepare for tests (especially social studies and math). My son reads years above his grade but should not be expected to understand legal documents and texts regarding issues that he has not experienced in life yet. It's unrealistic.
With some courses teachers and administrators will agree there are too many standards. Some of the courses, such as World History have 100+ standards. This is way too many. The teacher has the difficult task of finding a balance between teaching the standards -- not too fast to leave everyone in the dust or not too slow that the content is not covered. Pacing is a challenge that teachers are improving upon each year. Teachers want what is right for children, but are caught in the accountability system of being judged by student EOC scores or other high stake tests. We will continue to implement ways to assist students who need more time or practice to learn the material. In regards to the parent's concern about the level of content. We are required to teach the standards, since students will take a test meausing their knowledge on these standards at the end of the year. I am assuming the parent is talking about Civics. The Civics standards are quite rigorous and some are a stretch for middle school students. The standards would have to be changed at the state level as we do not have any control over this.
There were also several comments similar to this one...........
I really wish the teachers could enter grades into the HAC system sooner. Some teachers do a good job of posting grades and others only post on the assigned dates.
As an administrator and mom I have mixed feelings about HAC. I do think being able to look at grades online is helpful to monitor progress, but I think we rely on HAC too much. Up until a couple of years ago there were no grades online. Students were given a printed interim half way through the quarter and then a report card at the end. How did we mange before HAC? We probably had more conversations with our children and asked to see graded work. We will continue to post dates that grades are required to be updated by teachers. If you have a teacher who has not posted grades, please email me so I can follow up.

Applicants Interested in Serving on SJC Planning & Zoning
The St. Johns County School District is seeking applicants interested in serving on the St. Johns County Planning and Zoning Agency (PZA).
Florida growth management legislation requires all counties to have a School Board appointment as a non-voting member to participate in discussions on rezoning amendments to the land use plan that impact density. The St. Johns County Commission has agreed to go beyond the legislative requirements to make the School Board appointment a full voting member of the PZA.
Applicant must be a resident of St. Johns County. Selection will be based on a number of factors including the applicant's involvement in the county and in public education. Deadline for applications is noon on March 31.
Each applicant will need to attend the workshop with the School Board on Tuesday, May 6 at 8:30 am. The School Board plans to make its appointment at its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, May 13 at 9 am.
Applications may be obtained on the School District Website at www.stjohns.k12.fl.us under "What's New" or by calling Marcia Holmes, executive secretary for Facilities Planning & Growth Management, at 547-7680 or in person at the School Board Administration building at 47 Orange Street, St. Augustine.

Blood Shortage Appeal
Since the holidays we have been either short or critical on most blood types. On a national level, blood donations have been trending downward, but usage continues to stay at high levels. If we have a large need like we did last week when Mayo performed 3 O+ liver transplants in one day, we can easily become critically low on any given blood type. Please contact the Blood Alliance at www.igiveblood.com or call 824-1891.
