Spring Fling

We will have our Annual Spring Fling on Friday, May 9th. On this day lunches are extended and we set up a portable stage on the back lawn by the cafeteria patio.  Students sit and enjoy lunch and music.  We will also sell snow cones using Raider Bucks only.  If your student is interested in singing at Spring Fling, he/she needs to see me by Friday, May 2nd.

SAC Needs Assessment Survey

Each year we ask parents, students & staff to complete a Needs Assessment Survey.  We use this survey to help us make improvements within the school.  For the next few Fridays I will respond to some of the concerns from the survey.

In the written section of the Parent Survey, the biggest complaint was about Edmodo not being an effective method of communication from teachers.   For the parent question - Is Edmodo an effective form of communication?  21% said yes and 17% said frequently for a 38% total from the 308 parents who took the survey.   This percentage concerned us, so we went to the student survey.  The students had a question that asked - My teacher's use of Edmodo is helpful to me.  Of the 988 students that responded, 72% stated yes.  We think because the parent view on Edmodo is so different than the student view that we really need to encourage parents to use their child's login information instead of creating a parent account.  Many teachers have really figured out how to use Edmodo this year and post a myraid of resources for students.  We will continue to train teachers on the features of Edmodo and will continue to use the program next year.

Another comment from several parents was about parking when volunteering or checking-out their child.  I have discussed this concern with Mr. Pantano, Mainteance Coordinator, to address additional visitor parking in the front lot.  We are scheduled for parking lot resurfacing this summer, so at that time we will designate more spaces in the front lot for visitors.

Important Dates for 8th graders

Thu, June 5th - 10:30am - 8th grade Awards in Swiss Point gym

Each student will have their name called to receive a certificate of completion (this does not mean that all students have been promoted).  There are also individual awards given for academic performance.

Applicants Interested in Serving on SJC Planning & Zoning

The St. Johns County School District is seeking applicants interested in serving on the St. Johns County Planning and Zoning Agency (PZA).

Florida growth management legislation requires all counties to have a School Board appointment as a non-voting member to participate in discussions on rezoning amendments to the land use plan that impact density.  The St. Johns County Commission has agreed to go beyond the legislative requirements to make the School Board appointment a full voting member of the PZA.

Blood Shortage Appeal

Since the holidays we have been either short or critical on most blood types. On a national level, blood donations have been trending downward, but usage continues to stay at high levels.   If we have a large need like we did last week when Mayo performed 3 O+ liver transplants in one day, we can easily become critically low on any given blood type. Please contact the Blood Alliance at www.igiveblood.com or call 824-1891.
