Congratulations Raider Bands
The annual Music Performance Assessment (MPA) has come and gone. I'm so proud of our kids and how they fared at their formal band assessment:
Concert Band - Excellent, Excellent, Excellent on Stage (like a B) and Superior in Sight Reading (like an A)
Symphonic Band - Excellent, Excellent, Excellent on Stage (like a B) and Superior in Sight Reading (like an A)
Wind Symphony - Superior, Superior, Superior on Stage (like an A) and Superior in Sight Reading (like an A).
Out of the 15 schools represented in the event, we were the ONLY school to bring THREE bands to be assessed! (220 students!)
Out of the 20 bands that performed, only 4 received ALL superior ratings like our Wind Symphony did!
The other bands who received Excellent on stage did NOT receive Superior in Sight Reading like Concert and Symphonic did!
Thank you Mrs. Zentz and Mrs. Jacobs for all your hard work.
Congratulations to Swiss Point's MathCounts team for making it to the state competition in Orlando. They placed 3rd at the Regional Competition, which was held at the University of North Florida. Our brilliant team consisted of: Havyn Ancelin, Jake Glass, Cassidy Bolton, Sneha Patel, Sophia Stachowiack, Connor Hayes, and Connor Westcott. Best of luck at the state competition! Swiss Point is VERY proud of you!

Guidance Counselors
Barbara Seaton-6th grade and 7th graders with last names beginning with A-J.
Tanya Moseley- 7th graders, last name ending in K-Z and the entire 8th grade.
Seaton's Corner
As you know, we occasionally collect anonymous questions or concerns from students and then have a fellow student ("Raider Aide") give advice. Below is a submitted question:
"Dear Raider Aide, I am not making good grades, so I am grounded a lot. Help!"
(Response/Advice written by Haley Bradley, 6th Gr.) - "Need to make good grades? I can help! The first thing you should do is to stay organized. Staying organized is the best thing. You also need to study, and also always do your homework. Start on your homework the same day it is assigned and remember to turn it in on time. I hope this helps you get better grades."
From Mrs. Seaton: Very good advice, Haley! Please also remember to write out your homework in your planner, and also regularly check in Edmodo and HAC to keep on track. Also take advantage of being able to retake your Summatives if you score less than 75%. Remember that Summative Grades count as 80% of your grade, so retaking them could make a huge impact! Also ask for help! Your teachers want you to be successful. As a middle schooler, you need to start advocating for yourself if you are struggling. So just ask!
Moseley's Food for Thought
Spring break is here! It's a great time for students to relax and enjoy some time away from homework, summatives and projects! It's also a great time for families to spend some quality time, so make sure you schedule some "fun" things to do together this coming week! Hopefully students will come back to school on the 24th ready to jump into fourth quarter and end the year with good grades!

Policy Reminders
|
New Charging Policy in the Cafeteria
Student are encouraged to ask about their account balance, but are told verbally of a low or negative status of their account. Absolutely no ala cart items can be charged. Students who do not have the required payment will be allowed to charge up to two meals (5.20). The charge will appear on the point of sale system.
If a student has an outstanding charge and does not have the required payment after two meals have been charged, the student will be served a cheese sandwich and a milk without prior notice.
If a student has an outstanding charge and has been provided a sandwich and milk after five instances, the student will not be provided any further meals without payment.
Use of the online payments system is recommended to alleviate any problems with student not turning in lunch money. This program gives you access to monitor what your child is purchasing and their account balance. The website is www.paypams.com
Cell Phones
On page 23 of the St. Johns County Student Code of Conduct there is an entire section on cell phones. Paragraph 1 states: Students may possess cellular telephones and other wireless communication devices at school, on buses, and at school function. However, they must be turned off, stored in student's backpack, purse, locker or vehicle. The device shall not be used during the school day without administrative approval or on school buses to and from school. Failure to comply may result in the device being confiscated. Repeated failure to comply will be considered defiance of school rules. Paragraph 3 states: When there is reasonable suspicion that a student has used a cell phone or wireless communicative device in violation of the Code of Conduct or other school rules, or for an unlawful purpose, the school administration may review the phone's call log, voice messages, text messages, photographs and any other applications to furtherance of its investigation of the suspected violation.
We have communicated this district policy to the students every quarter in our behavior expectation assemblies. We have communicated that their cell phone may not be used on campus at all, which includes in the hall or outside at dismissal or upon arrival to school. We will no longer ask a child to just put their cell phone away. The phone will be confiscated. Students who are not feeling well need to go to the clinic to call their parent not call or send a text from their cell phone. PLEASE talk to your child about following school rules. We have a phone in the main office that students are allowed to use. Thank you for your support.
Do you have a New Cell or Home Phone Number....maybe new email address? Parents, if you have a new home number, work number, cell number or e-mail address, please notify Norma Miller in Guidance. Contact her at 547-8626 or
millern@stjohns.k12.fl.us

Applicants Interested in Serving on SJC Planning & Zoning
The St. Johns County School District is seeking applicants interested in serving on the St. Johns County Planning and Zoning Agency (PZA).
Florida growth management legislation requires all counties to have a School Board appointment as a non-voting member to participate in discussions on rezoning amendments to the land use plan that impact density. The St. Johns County Commission has agreed to go beyond the legislative requirements to make the School Board appointment a full voting member of the PZA.

Each applicant will need to attend the workshop with the School Board on Tuesday, May 6 at 8:30 am. The School Board plans to make its appointment at its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, May 13 at 9 am.
Applications may be obtained on the School District Website at www.stjohns.k12.fl.us under "What's New" or by calling Marcia Holmes, executive secretary for Facilities Planning & Growth Management, at 547-7680 or in person at the School Board Administration building at 47 Orange Street, St. Augustine.
