Click here to view a flyer from Ossi Orthodontics
Click here to view newsletters from Middle Years, Working Together for School Success. These are newsletters that SPMS subscribes to that give helpful strategies for middle schoolers and their parents. If your child received an honor card click here to view a letter from Dr. Joyner congratulating the student for acedemic achievement and click here to view the businesses that will accept the honor card.
Students who received all As or all As and Bs were treated to soda and cookies on Thursday for their accomplishments. A special thank you to Publix at Racetrack & SR13 for delivering the sodas.
Hat and Pajama Day
Today students and staff could wear hats and pajamas to school and it was requested that a $1 donation be given for each worn. The money collected will go to the Ronald McDonald House where Angela Hunter, 8th grade Science teacher, and her husband are staying while Baby Blake is at Wolfson's. Blake was born with a heart condition and underwent surgery shortly after birth. Great job Raiders by showing support for a family member!
Additional Fundraising
Mrs. Bower (teacher at SPMS) and her husband own Rip Line Apparel. They are sponsoring a fundraiser to help benefit 2 local families. Aubrey Thompson is a former SPMS student who suffered serious injuries from a car accident and Blake Hunter, newborn baby of Angela Hunter (SPMS teacher) who underwent major heart surgery shortly after birth. Rip Line is offering $10 shirts for purchase with proceeds to be split between the 2 families. Please visit the website at www.riplineapparel.com. You may order through Paypal by going to bower_k@bellsouth.net and in the "notes" section say what design/size/color etc. or email Mrs. Bower at bower_k@bellsouth.net

Guidance Counselors
Barbara Seaton-6th grade and 7th graders with last names beginning with A-J.
Tanya Moseley- 7th graders, last name ending in K-Z and the entire 8th grade.
Moseley's Food for Thought
As we begin a new quarter, here are some tips for helping your child be more successful:
- Encourage your child to use a planner; we all have schedules to keep and most of us write down our appointments, stress the importance of this lifelong habit with your child.
- Post a monthly family calendar in the kitchen so everyone is aware of up-coming events and can plan school work accordingly.
- Have a specific space at home to do homework with minimal distractions.
- Do today's homework today; don't put it off because it isn't due tomorrow.
- Keep folders for Silver classes in one binder and folders for Black classes in another.
- The National Sleep Foundation says that teens need 8.5 - 9 hours of sleep each night to function at their best and that "sleep is food for the brain...it is as important as the air you breathe, the water you drink, and the food you eat".
Pack up homework, choose clothes, etc. BEFORE going to bed each night
Seaton's Corner
Just as a reminder, report cards were given out to students in their homeroom classes on Thursday. There have been several calls from parents with questions about grades. Grades can be accessed by parents through HAC (Home Access) at any time. To help pull up your child's grades, please remind them that they may retake some of their Summative Assessments that are below 70%. However, before being able to retake a Summative Assessment, they must demonstrate that they understand the standard (websites, videos, worksheets/handouts, etc.). Their teacher will tell them exactly what is required of them to do before being able to retake the assessment. The retake assessment scores may not be above 75%.

Current 6th grade parents!
It is not too early to start preparing for your child's 7th grade immunization requirement. As soon as they have their 11th birthday they can get their Tdap shot. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to call me. This school year we had 108 students that did not have their Tdap two weeks before school was to start! Please don't wait till the last minute! This shot must be documented on a Florida Certification of Immunization.
Asthma Workshops
There are some upcoming Asthma Workshops that are free to the public. They are offered once a month on a Saturday from 11-1 and on a Wednesday from 6pm to 8pm. They are offered at 3563 Phillips Highway, Building E,suite 502. These classes are sponsored by Wolfson Children's Hospital. Call 202-5132 to register or for more information.
Attention 6th Grade Parents
You should have received a letter about our 6th grade Health Screening with your student's report card. The Health Screening will take place on November 14th and November 21st. All students will be screened through PE. (If your child does not have PE they will be screened through their non-core class) I do not need anything back from you if you wish your child to participate. I need all forms returned to the homeroom teacher no later than November 7th. There is a section on the bottom of the form to be returned ONLY if you do not wish your child to participate.
