Science Fair - we are listening!

The science department met and decided that by forcing advanced students to complete a science fair project we are causing unnecessary stress among students and teachers. The teachers felt that forcing everyone to participate was not creating a passion for science in our students.  Please look on Edmodo or in your email for a message from your advanced science teacher explaining what needs to be completed and what is optional.  We are hoping that some students will still want to participate in our school fair in December in hopes of representing SPMS in the district fair.

Common Core Standards

Below is a link to a newspaper article from the SunSentinel that will be helpful if you are still confused about what all the fuss is about over Common Core standards.

Current 6th grade parents!

It is not too early to start preparing for your child's 7th grade immunization requirement.   As soon as they have their 11th birthday they can get their Tdap shot.   If you have any questions please don't hesitate to call me. This school year we had 108 students that did not have their Tdap two  weeks before school was to start!     Please don't wait till the last minute!   This shot must be documented on a Florida Certification of Immunization.

Parents and students, we have many students with asthma. What can you do to help keep them in school and not trigger an asthma attack?  Please don't wear anything with a strong odor like perfume, talcum powder, cologne or body spray into the school. All of these things are asthma triggers. Perfume can also be a trigger for a migraine.
