Message from Mrs. Kunze

Welcome back- hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend!

With the start of the new semester on January 18th, students may need to clean out notebooks, replace broken notebooks or restock their supply of paper, pencils & pens.  Please help students get reorganized to start a new semester off right. THANK YOU!

On Wednesday in homeroom students will be given a new schedule.  Some students will have a non-core class that will change.

Report cards will be distributed on Tuesday, January 24th.

Attention 8th grade parents!

Your 8th grader will be getting a lot of information about high school in January. On January 20th, students will view a DVD in Study Hall that will highlight each high school and what academies are offered. St. Johns District Schools offers a variety of Programs of Study and Career Academy options. The goal of these programs is to encourage relevant academics through real-world activities tied to student interests. Students can prepare for further education in academic and career areas which require post-secondary education at a college, university, community college or technical institute, and in career areas which are open for immediate employment upon graduation. Academy students can earn free college credit through dual enrollment or by earning industry certifications which may articulate to college credits. Please take the time to visit www.stjohns.k12.fl.us/academies to explore the exceptional programs that St. Johns County has to offer.

Please mark your calendar for January 26, 2012 for this year's High School Showcase at World Golf Village. This conference style event will showcase the variety of programs available to St. Johns County high school students. Eighth grade students will be attending during the day (called High School Blitz) to get an in-depth view of academies and are encouraged to return that evening with their parents to learn more about the opportunities available in St. Johns County high schools. The showcase will allow parents and students to meet teachers and other students representing these programs and will allow the public to gather information on programs of interest.

Does Your Child Need Extra Help in ANY Subject????
SOAR is an innovative program that makes it easy for parents to play an active role in their children's education. SOAR is designed for military families but can be accessed by any civilian families as well for FREE.  SOAR is an internet-based application. Students take an assessment aligned to the Florida State Standards which identifies strengths and weaknesses, and SOAR directs them to individualized tutorials to improve skills where needed. Parents can monitor their children's progress from anywhere, and are provided with resource materials.
To register for SOAR:
2. register yourself and your child/ren
3. Students can begin taking assessments immediately
4. Parents and children can then enjoy skills resources, analysis of assessments, utilize skills tutor lessons, view parent resources, and students can take additional targeted quizzes based on one skill.

The Military Impacted Schools Association (MISA) sponsors SOAR in partnership with the University of Northern Iowa, The Princeton Review, and Skills Tutor.

Parent Assist and Teacher Class Pages

It is the parent's responsibility to be aware of their child's grades on an ongoing basis by going on the Parent Assist account. If you do not have your password, you must send in a copy of your drivers license and a signed parent waiver (you can download it from our website) with your child to Ms. Miller in Guidance. If you have a question about an assignment, please check your child's planner and/or go to the teacher's class webpage on our website, with your child present, to try to find the answer. If you still have a question then email the teacher.
