Message from Mrs. Kunze

Swiss Point is trying to raise funds for a 74 station computer lab.  Why so many computers you ask?  Computer-based testing is here.  Students in Algebra 1 Honors this year took an End-of-Course (EOC) exam on the computer.  Next year EVERY 7th grader (320students) will have to take the Reading FCAT on the computer.  The Geometry Honors EOC will start next year which is computer-based as well.

We currently have two 30 station computer labs.  These are the only labs that teachers can sign-up and take students to for computer-based projects or research.  This year starting on April 21st, both of these computer labs have been used for Think Link (progress monitoring) testing and Algebra 1 EOC.  No classroom teacher has been able to use these labs.

We can use the new 74 station lab for required testing, so we keep the 2 small labs available for teacher use.  An additional benefit to the new lab would be to allow some 8th graders to take HOPE (Health Opportunities through Physical Education,) which is required for high school graduation, online during the school day instead of taking PE.  This would allow students to take an additional elective freshman year at Bartram.

We have received a quote from the district office for the new computer lab - $28,886.98

Funds we have to date are....

$9,000.  District funds that we have saved throughout the year

$5,800  MixedBag fundraiser

$8,000   NEW donation from our AWESOME PTSO!!

Total = $22,800

We are still in need of $6,086.98

We are asking for your help, so we can have the new lab ready when school starts.  If you can make a donation for any amount or know of a business that could donated, it would be greatly appreciated.  ALL donations are tax deductable since we are a nonprofit organization.  If you can help, PLEASE send checks to Switzerland Point MS, Attn: computer lab, 777 Greenbriar Road, St. Johns, FL  32259

THANK YOU for your continued support to our students!

I would like to thank the PTSO for all they have done for Swiss Point this year.  In addition to all of the fun activities for our students - dance, movie, 5k family fun run, & carnival, they have provided.....

a camera for TV production

IMAC computer for news media

MacBook pro for Technology class

Computing system for yearbook - 5 stations

Computing system for library - 5 stations

5 LCD projectors and 3 Elmos

Teacher mini-grants for supplies (over $8,000)

and recently an $8,000 donation to our new computer lab

Swiss Point can not thank our supportive parents enough!!

Your child should have brought home a flyer for the lastest PTSO fundraiser on Thursday.  They are hosting a gold & silver party on Tuesday, June 7th & Wednesday, June 8th from 6-8pm each night.  The PTSO can earn up to 25% for your unused gold & silver.  All proceeds will go towards our new computer lab.  If you are interested, PLEASE RSVP to Deb McCarty at rdmccarty@comcast.net or call Bette Smith at 504-6672.  It is very important to RSVP so there is enough cash on had to purchase your gold & silver.

Message from Treasurer, Sharon Moore

We have had a great year and I want to thank each and every one of you for your contributions.  We have exceeded our expectations in several areas this past year such as Family and Teacher Memberships, Box Tops, the Magazine Drive and recently the Carnival.  These were successful because of your contributions and we were able to put back so much into the classrooms for needed equipment and books.

We were also able to make a huge contribution in the area of technology by purchasing $11,000 worth of equipment earlier in the year and last week donating $8,000 towards the new computer lab.

It has been a very productive year because of our great parents who are willing to donate time and money to our children's education.  We thank you and look forward to another outstanding school year in the fall.

Sparkle Effect Coming To Nease High School

After watching an Oprah special about two cheerleaders (from Bettendorf, Iowa) who founded a cheer squad at their school for girls with disabilities, Adrianna Barranco, a Varsity cheerleader, made a dedicated decision to find a way to bring the same lasting, positive impact to Nease.
After meeting with Principal Dresback, athletic director, Ted Barbato and varsity cheer Coach Linda Carnall, and PE teacher, Sharon Cox, about how to make this program a success, the Nease Sparklers was created.
The Nease Sparklers, in its inaugural season, will consist of 6 girls with special needs to cheer alongside the varsity cheer squad at two home football games. Adrianna will serve as captain of the squad with Coach Carnall and Mrs. Sharon Cox acting as advisors. A core group of cheerleaders will act as buddies for the participants assisting in cheer routines and stunts at practices and the football games.
The Nease Sparklers is open to any St. Johns county female student from middle through high school ages. If you are interested please contact Coach Linda Carnall via email: carnall@stjohns.k12.fl.us

Community Events

Volunteer Opportunity at Westminster Woods

Westminster Woods on Julington Cree is a non-profit retirement community located just South of the Julington Creek Bridge.  We are proud our our connection to the Jacksonville community and want to offer volunteer opportunities to students aged 13 and over (by June 1st) during our summer volunteer program - service hours will be awarded.  We will have an orientation the first week of the summer vacation and will get them ready to go!  Opportunities on this campus are varied!  There are 400 folks who live here.  All senior citizens, all different levels of care.  We have had volunteers help with activities, help in the pool, go on outings, play the Wii, take wheel chair bound residents for walks, call Bingo, organize our library, etc.  There really is something for everyone! For more information or to apply please contact Pam Benfer - Director of Volunteers 287-7181 or email at pbenfer@wservices.org

Host Families Needed

There is still a need for 17 students who need host families. This is a great program for young teens as it gives them a responsible companion for the month of July. Click here for more information.
