This past weekend U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) started to phase in the new paperless I-94 system in which foreign travelers entering the U.S. in a nonimmigrant status will no longer be given a paper I-94 card. The paperless system roll-out will continue though May 21 to all airports and seaports within the U.S., including pre-flight inspection facilities at Canadian airports. At present, there is no timetable for implementing this at U.S. land borders.
As many agencies and organizations throughoout the U.S. have come to depend on the I-94 card as evidence of an individual's valid status in the U.S., travelers will be able to obtain a printout of their I-94 card following their admission.
The CBP has released a video describing how to print an I-94 card.
