Recovery Audit Contractors (RACs) Update

Recovery audits continue to be an area of focus and attention in the health care industry with recent developments in the how these are administered. Recovery Audit Contractors (RACs)

are generally able to review any claims within three years of the date the claim was paid. In May 2015, CMS "limited the RAC look-back period to six months from the date of service for patient status reviews, in cases where the hospital submits the claim within three months of the date of service."
