OIG Issues Joint Guidance for Health Care Boards

Recently, the Office of Inspector General (OIG) of the Department of Health & Human Services issued joint guidance for governing boards of health care organizations. This guidance was developed in conjunction with the American Health Lawyers Association, Association of Healthcare Internal Auditors, and the Health Care Compliance Association.

 

In the document, "Practical Guidance for Health Care Boards on Compliance Oversight," the authors provide practical ideas for Boards to consider implementing as they carry out their oversight role to ensure compliance with State and Federal laws. The guidance includes:
 

  • Processes for identifying risks
  • Tools for improving adherence to program objectives
  • Effective reporting tools for board meetings.
