| Reporting Requirements of Perks Under ACA
Did you know that the Physician Payments Sunshine Act (Sunshine Act), requires manufacturers of drugs, medical devices and biologicals that participate in U.S. federal health care programs to report certain payments and other items of value given to physicians and teaching hospitals?
It also requires manufacturers and group purchasing organizations (GPOs) to report certain ownership interests held by physicians and their immediate family members. The requirement for tracking payment and ownership information went into effect on August 1, 2013. Most of the information reported will be available on a public, searchable website. Physicians will be able to challenge these reports when they go online next year.
The American Medical Association has created a toolkit to aid physicians in complying with the financial transparency reports required under the Act. We encourage you to download the toolkit and explore this information to ensure you are in compliance.
