Move Forward with ICD-10 Education

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Service (CMS) is standing firm on the implementation date of October 1, 2014, for ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS.

Just a quick reminder of what ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS is all about: 

• ICD-10-CM will be utilized for the assignment of diagnosis codes for all providers of healthcare
• ICD-10-PCS will be utilized for the assignment of the procedure codes for hospital inpatients only
• These codes will be utilized as of October 1, 2014 

If you haven't done so already, it is time to start with general education and information sharing throughout your facility about the changes to come in the next year.

CMS is offering a free conference call on Thursday, August 22, 2013, through Medicare Learning Network (MLN) entitled ICD-10 Basics. The targeted audience includes medical coders, physicians, physician office staff, nurses and other non-physician practitioners, provider billing staff, health records staff, vendors, educators, system maintainers, laboratories and all Medicare Providers.
