Savasana Station - September

Return to routine in September. Nothing wrong with routine - there's plenty of spontaneity that arises in every moment if you're in it. Routine with gentle discipline helps us accomplish goals and we can find ourselves in a life that we want. This isn't to say that it's all mapped out and there are no surprises. Of course there are surprises, life is always full of them. How you are mentally prepared to receive them is up to you. Building in a practice verses fitting something in can be a part of your September routine/practice.

that change is more likely to happen if you build in a practice, a new habit rather than fit it in? What I mean by this is that if you say, "I'll do it later", or "when I have time, I'll try and do _____" the chances of you actually "finding" time and this thing happening are pretty small. Time slips away because we can't hold it. If we make a commitment to show up for something that we find helpful, whether it's a yoga class, drawing class, a date with a friend or partner, we are taking action towards living our lives more fully by giving ourselves the chance to express ourselves, connect with others, and learn about ourselves. I first heard the Bruce Lee quote at Dharma talk by Dr. Jeffrey Rubin. Jeffrey offered that we could apply this idea to his Dharma talk ... "Absorb what is useful, Discard what is not, Add what is uniquely your own". What I understood when Jeffrey presented this idea was that we didn't have to take what he said as gospel, but to investigate how we felt about what he was teaching. I found this teaching valuable in that each person has their own experience in whatever it is they are doing. Every person is unique, you can't be duplicated (at least not yet as far as I know). This is incredible. We don't have to try and be different. We already are. We can be inspired and an inspiration by tuning into our intelligence, intuition and insight which is already in us if you listen. No need to copy someone else. Learn from them ... Absorb what is useful, Discard what is not, Add what is uniquely your own." Your self-esteem grows the more you embody who you are - all of you in every way that you can imagine.

"I may eat more kitchari than I should to get through this first sugar-free evening. It is so good. I made it with carrots. Delicious first day! Only violent act so far has been massaging the kale :)"
"Food wise - the day was amazing. Loved nourishing my body with yummy food and loved trying to be more mindful in general. Thanks for letting me share and thank you Kim!!!"
"What a day! Kim, I so appreciated your "food for thought" email. I've done a few detox programs, but this one feels like it is going a lot deeper! I thought about ahimsa for much of the day...I actually went to an excellent seminar on masculinity/violence in our culture this morning. I think my most violent thinking took place when I was swearing at morning traffic...I was a little crabby about not having my morning coffee, but I caught myself. :)"
"Hi Kim, I just wanted to thank you for a wonderful 10 days and amazing advice/thoughts/practices/support that are going to stick with me for the rest of my life. I hope to join in the next time around too, if there is one. Much love and gratitude"
