Personal Umbrella Coverage

Are you interested in Protecting your Assets and Reducing your Anxiety?  We have just the product for you!  Cheryl Petty, a Customer Service Agent in Rutland, reminds you of the importance of Personal Umbrella Coverage.

"The Personal Umbrella  policy is designed to provide coverage in the event of a catastrophic claim, lawsuit or judgment.  It provides excess liability insurance over the basic primary policies (e.g. homeowners, personal auto and boaters policies). Umbrella policies pay after the limits of the underlying primary policies are exhausted.

If you are looking for additional coverage to insure against Personal Injury Liability or Property Damage Liability, this may be a great policy for you."

Specialty Insurance - Farms & Ranches

A family operated farm or ranch typically has a variety of real and personal property such as farm equipment, livestock and buildings. Losses can come from perils that affect any other kind of business, such as fire or windstorm, but also from unique risks, such as the death of livestock or destruction of crops by hail.

For most farms or ranches, the most cost effective and efficient way to obtain property and liability coverage is with a package policy that combines a variety of coverages in a single contract, similar to a Business Owners Policy (BOP) but tailored to a farm or a ranch. Though marketed under a variety of names, these policies will typically have provisions similar to the property insurance and liability insurance sections of the BOP, with the option to add various other coverages that you may need.

The advantage of this product is that it gives a broader range of coverage at a lower cost than is available by buying various separate policies for different risks.

Spring has finally arrived - well, at least on our calendars!   With Spring comes the usual reminders to turn your clocks ahead, change your smoke alarm batteries and as we have come to learn, be prepared for possible flooding!  Vermont weather can change quickly, and many of our clients have found themselves unprepared for flooding and harsh weather conditions.

Please be sure you and yours are ready for whatever surprises Mother Nature brings us this spring.  It will save you considerable time, money and frustration later.

Now, bring on the crocuses, tulips and daffodils!

Preparing for Health Care Reform

Thanks to those of you that attended our Health Care Reform for Businesses seminars in February!  The feedback has been great and our clients were delighted to receive some early insight as to the work that lies ahead of them to prepare for Health Care Reform.

"We were very impressed with the seminar offered in Woodstock last month. We learned more in that one afternoon workshop than we learned from two other informational meetings we attended."

         ---Minga Rae Dana, Executive Director
Marble Valley Regional Transit District -  "The Bus"

What's next?  Our Benefits Division is working hard to prepare clients for compliance leading up to the January 1, 2014 effective date for many provisions of Health Care Reform.  We will be helping large businesses (with 51 or more employees) evaluate their benefit plan structure and determine if they are at risk for paying penalties under the new Shared Responsibility Rules.  We will be helping small businesses (50 or fewer employees) understand the implications of continuing with their current group health plan or dropping their plan and allowing their employees to individually secure health insurance on the Health Care  Exchange.  We will also be assisting small businesses and their employees to determine if employees will be eligible for subsidies on the Health Care Exchange.

Are you ready for these changes and prepared to comply with health care reform?  It will be here before you know it.  Kinney Pike's Benefits Team can help you plan ahead, make informed decisions while evaluating your risks, and prepare you for questions from your employees.

If you are currently a Kinney Pike Benefits client, we will be helping you with these various elements of Health Care Reform compliance as part of the services we provide.  If you are not a Benefits client, please contact us so that we can talk to you about employee benefits assistance and our health care reform compliance services.
