Hello Friends! Spring seems to making it's way in our direction! Little by little we are seeing the warmer temperatures and the new leaves beginning to bud on the trees! FINALLY! :)

Please be aware that we've seen several patients coming in with the "stomach bug" or rotavirus recently, so do your very best to protect yourself  by keeping your hands washed. You may also want to refrain from eating and drinking after others since the symtpoms are not always evident  initially.

Others are beginning to experience allergy flare ups as all the plants begin to bloom. Keeping an eye on the pollen index when you know you have to be out and about can be helpful. Unfortunately, there are only a few ways to combat allergies (avoidance, anti-histamines, and allergy shots). If your allergies already have you frustrated, just remember that we are here if you need us! :)

Even when we can't be outside, seeing the sunshine alone can be good medicine to lift the winter blues. So, take good care of yourself, and enjoy your Spring!
Eating Well on a Tight Budget

Woman in fridge It's possible, but it takes effort and planning, at the grocery store and in the kitchen. U.S. Newshas compiled tips for you to play both nutritionist and economist from home, with input from Melissa d'Arabian of the Food Network's Ten Dollar Dinners, Gabi Moskowitz of the BrokeAss Gourmet blog, and the United States Department of Agriculture.

Make the pantry your very own marketplace. Load it with healthy products that have a long shelf life, such as whole-wheat pasta, dry beans and lentils, and canned fruits, veggies, and fish. That way, when your fridge looks bare, you can throw together a nutritious, prepaid meal-instead of shelling out fordelivery pizza. Read More > >

Early Dental Care for Kids

Every baby has a beautiful smile, and to keep it that way, parents should teach good dental habits at an early age, experts say.

A child's first dental appointment should occur six months after the first teeth erupt or by their first birthday. After that, it is recommended that children see a dentist every six months.

"Childhood dental decay is largely preventable, and taking your child to see a dentist at an early age is the best way to prevent future oral health problems," Academy of General Dentistry spokesperson Dr. R. Claire Campbell said in an academy news release. "This will instill positive behaviors that will result in a lifetime of good oral health."

As part of National Children's Dental Health Month in February, the group offered the following tips for parents:

  • When the first teeth come in, parents should begin brushing the child's teeth. Brush for two minutes twice a day using a small, soft-bristled toothbrush and water. Talk to your dentist before using toothpaste in children under age 2.
