A NOTE FROM THE DOCTORS

We made it...another year down! Here's what to expect in 2013:

Martin County graduate and Palm City native joins Martin Downs Animal Hospital as new veterinary associate

Drs Karol and Robin Poderski announce the addition of a new associate to their staff at

Martin Downs Animal Hospital (MDAH) in Palm City.  Giovando - a native of Palm City and a graduate of Martin County High School - is a doctor of veterinary medicine and has joined our 20-year practice this January.

Dr. Giovando, a graduate of Florida Atlantic University, received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and then continued his education and formal training in veterinary medicine at the University of Tennessee. He received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2012.

Dr. Giovando has special interests in internal medicine, oncology and ultrasonography.

He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Florida Veterinary Medical Association and American Animal Hospital Association.

As he had always hoped, Dr. Giovando has returned to Palm City, where he is eager and excited to share his knowledge and compassion with members of the community by caring for their beloved pets. Dr. Robin Waters and Dr. Karol Poderski, along with their staff, warmly welcome Dr. Giovando to the practice.

New Schedule For Dr. Waters and Poderski:

For your convenience due to client requests: Dr. Waters will now be taking appointments on Wednesdays and Dr. Poderski will be seeing patients on Saturdays in addition to their regular schedules.

Doctors Out To Conference:

Dr. Waters and Dr. Poderski will be taking continuing education lectures at the North American Veterinary Conference (NAVC). They will be at the conference in Orlando January 19 - January 24. While they are away, Dr. Judith Oliver will be covering for them.

New Website:

We are sorry for the inconvenience of our current website being under construction but we are excited to announce the release of our new and improved website coming out late January to early February. We really like the design of the new website and hope you will also. Your feedback would be great also.

Lauren:

On a sad note we are losing one of our veterinary assistants this January. Lauren has been with us for 2 years and has decided to continue her education in New York. She will be moving to Manhattan and will be starting school to further her degree in Sports Medicine. We are sorry to see her go but happy for her new future.

ADOPTION CORNER

Domino's House - Mo
Greetings folks, I'm Mo, a 4 year old tiger striped male cat. And not just any cat but a real lover; I haven't met the person yet that I didn't like. I had a good home but lost it when my "owner" went into hospice. I miss having a family, even if it's just one person, it's still a family as far as I'm concerned. Is there anyone out there that would like to share their life with a loving fellow like me? I sure hope so.

Urban Tails - Pennelope
Pennolope is an approximately 2 year old Petite American Bulldog. She likes other dogs and is housebroken. She is 48#, spayed, up to date on shots and is negative for heartworms.

NUTRITION 101

MYTH OR FACT?:
By-products are poor-quality ingredients.

IT'S A MYTH:
By-products are sometimes thought to be low-quality ingredients that shouldn't be included in pet foods.

THE FACTS:
By-products are an excellent source of protein and other nutrients.

By-products defined:
  • A by-product is any ingredient that is produced or left over when some other products or ingredients are made.
  • Broth and gelatin are examples of meat by-products in human foods.
  • By-products in pet foods that meet Association of American Feed Control Official (AAFCO) guidelines come from clean animal parts other than meat, such as liver, kidneys, and other organs.
  • Purina purchases all by-products from USDA-inspected plants. They must meet stringent criteria for nutrient content, production and quality assurance.

REMEMBER:

By-products used in Purina diets are high-quality ingredients that can boost the nutritional value of a pet food.
