One group of volunteers which serves Cherry Hill Seminary is our mostly behind-the-scenes and often-unsung Board of Directors. This is our governing body, the people tasked with making sure we stick to our mission, have adequate resources to operate, keeping an eye on how I do my job, and answering to outside authorities like the State of South Carolina Commission on Higher Education and the S.C. Secretary of State.
Most board members serve a three-year term, and some of them stay for a second term. While people normally feel they are only getting well-adjusted by the end of their first year, it's still a long time to devote to any one cause in our modern world of rapid change.
This spring two wonderful individuals have completed their terms and "rolled off" the board. We send them on their way with deep gratitude.
When Ellen Friedman of Austin, Texas, first arrived on the Board of Directors, she identified a need - a model community event to raise awareness and funds for CHS. With a flair for the creative, Ellen created the idea for A Sacred Feast, then approached numerous groups in the Austin Pagan community, engaging them in a chili cookoff contest and silent auction to benefit CHS.
Beth Owl's Daughter Livingston of Durham, NC, is known to many for her tarot reading and writing. During her time on the CHS board, Beth has tirelessly promoted Cherry Hill Seminary, raising awareness through her own newsletter, personal contacts, and sponsorship at her local Pagan festival.
Both Ellen and Beth have offered personal support and wisdom, and in the process grown immeasurably in our esteem. I have come to rely on each of them for advice, ideas and encouragement. With love and sincere thanks, we acknowledge the fine work you have done for all of us at Cherry Hill Seminary, and wish you well in your future endeavors!
