This unique three-day training event will integrate DCADV's work on health, prevention, and trauma and bring together partners from throughout the state to increase knowledge, build skills, and collectively improve services in Delaware.

Day 1 of the Institute will focus on domestic violence as a gender health disparity, reproductive coercion, and the primary prevention of intimate partner violence using a public-health lens. DCADV's partnership and work with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Futures Without Violence will be highlighted and used to bring nationally recognized best-practices to First State providers.
Workshops will cover:

Understanding Intimate Partner Violence as a Health Issue;

Integrating Health Services into Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Programs;

Healthcare Policy and Domestic Violence (including an overview of the Affordable Care Act coverage of screening and preventative services); and
-
Delaware-Specific Prevention Activities and Successes.

Days 2 & 3 - Wednesday, July 30 & Thursday, July 31
|
Days 2 and 3 of the Institute will help participants better understand the impact of trauma experienced by victims and survivors of domestic, family, and dating violence and will prepare them to better assist those they serve using a more trauma-informed approach to their work.
Workshops topics will include:

Trauma-Informed Approaches in Health Services;

Cultural Competence;
-
Organizational Practice; and
-
Self-Care and Vicarious Trauma.
Days 2 and 3 will address topics relevant to professionals in the following fields:
