Women Swimmin' for Hospicare's 11th annual event will begin at dawn on August 9, at the Ithaca Yacht Club. More than 300 women will swim the 1.2 miles across Cayuga Lake to reach the dock at the club, where they will be greeted with cheers from supporters waiting on shore.

This year if weather is inclement or water conditions are problematic, we will post updates to the event's Facebook page and website around 5:30 a.m. If we can't gather outside at the Yacht Club because of weather, we will convene at Cass Park Rink for a celebration, breakfast and music at 8 a.m.

So far, as of August 3, our swimmers have raised more than $249,000 toward our goal of $360,000. If you'd like to support a swimmer, you can make a donation on line.

Moving through Grief
Emma Silverman

The pain of losing a loved one affects us in many ways. To address and explore the interconnectedness of the physical and emotional experience of grief, Hospicare is offering a one-time session: Moving Through Grief.

Facilitated by Emma Silverman, certified yoga instructor and Hospicare volunteer, this will be an outdoor, restorative yoga session. It will end with a counselor-led group discussion.

The event is open to any adult who has experienced a loss, regardless of when the loss occurred or their relationship to the deceased. All levels of physical fitness are welcome to participate. Bring a yoga mat (if you have one), a towel and a water bottle.

Moving Through Grief will take place Wednesday, August 13,

9:00-10:30 a.m. in the Hospicare gardens. Free and open to the public, but please register by August 11 with Jen Hoffmann Williamee, LMSW, jwilliamee@hospicare.org or call 272-0212.

Films Show Beauty of Hospice

Guest of Honor
In the documentary, Guest of Honor, a hospice patient's son decides to move up his wedding date so his mother can attend.

Guest of Honor is a poignant short film that part of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization's documentary series "Moments of Life." Through these thoughtful films the NHPCO seeks to educate the public about real hospice experiences. Films like Guest of Honor powerfully illustrate that hospice is truly about how you live.
