Hospice care is palliative care, but not all palliative care is hospice care. If you're confused about what that really means, you're not alone. One of the challenges that practitioners of palliative care face is that people don't really understand what this type of care actually entails. In particular, people don't realize a patient can receive palliative care even while still taking curative treatment.

 

The most common misconception is that "palliative care" is a euphemism for hospice. Even most medical providers have this impression.

Community Fundraisers Will
Raise Money for Hospicare 
 
We are pleased and grateful to announce that there will be a range of community fundraisers taking place in the next few weeks to raise money for Hospicare. They are initiated and carried out by our enthusiastic, caring supporters. Thank you so much!
 

Maguire logo  
The Maguire Family of Dealerships in Ithaca is dedicating their July Community Oil Change
fundraising initiative to Hospicare. Throughout the month, 10% of proceeds from Community Oil Changes will be donated to us. These special-priced oil changes are good for all makes of cars sold by Maguire, even if you didn't buy your car from them initially.


Post 221 of the American Legion will be having a motorcycle ride around Cayuga Lake followed by a chicken BBQ. All proceeds will be donated to Hospicare. The ride starts at 10:00 a.m., leaving from the post's headquarters at 1231 Danby Road. The Chicken BBQ follows at 1:00 p.m., and costs $10 per dinner. There will also be a bake sale, 50/50 raffle, and a special performance by the Katherine Aelias Band from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

On August 2, the SufferJets will be taking on the Syracuse Assault Squad at the Cass Park Rink in Ithaca. Doors open at 6:00 and the whistle sounds at 7:00. Tickets are $8 in advance, $10 at the door. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Hospicare.

  • Evening Support Group for All Bereaved 7/16, 8/20 (3rd Wednesday of the month), 5:30-7:00 PM  
  • Widow to Widow 4 sessions: 7/10 & 7/24, 8/14 & 8/28, 3:00-4:30 PM

  • Moving Through Grief 8/13, 9:00-10:30 AM, yoga & grief session, held outside on the Hospicare grounds
