Memorial Event June 12
Join Us for Illuminations

On Thursday evening, June 12, we will be holding Illuminations, our annual memorial event, in the Hospicare gardens. The pathways around our building will glow with luminarias, each dedicated to the memory of someone who has died. The service includes live music, spoken words and refreshments. This year, local musician Samite will perform, along with Hospicare's monthly a cappella singing circle, Women Singin'.

Luminarias can be personalized for a suggested donation of $25. Donations are greatly appreciated but not required.

The reception and luminaria lighting begins at 7:30 p.m. The program of remembrance begins at 8:00 p.m.

How to Talk to Your Doctor

Talking with your loved ones openly and honestly, before a medical crisis happens, gives everyone a shared understanding about what matters most to you at the end of life. After you've had the conversation with your loved ones, the next step is talking to your doctor or nurse about your wishes. Again, don't wait for a medical crisis; talking with your doctor or nurse now makes it easier to make medical decisions when the time comes.

The Conversation Project has put together a useful guide which you can use as a workbook to make notes of what to tell the healthcare team-whether you're getting ready to discuss your own wishes, or you're helping someone else get ready to discuss theirs.

SewGreen Volunteers Sew Bags for Patients' Families
Kristen McGeorge, SewGreen classroom coordinator, shows off the beautiful bags.

Recently the Monday sewing circle at SewGreen donated 73 handmade cloth bags to Hospicare. The bags will be given to deceased patients' families, filled with their loved one's possessions.

We are grateful to SewGreen and to the sewing volunteers who have reached out to our patients' families with such kindness and given so much of their time and talents.
