Light the Landscape: An Evening of Remembrance

Join us Tuesday, December 4 in the Nina K. Miller Hospicare Center Great Room for music, refreshments, a candle-lighting ceremony, and a special display of the names of those being remembered.

Refreshments will be served at 5:30 PM, and the program will begin at 6:00 PM.

Attendance is free, but if you wish to make an online gift, please specify "Light the Landscape" and the name(s) of the person(s) you are honoring.

As the event is only a few days off, an RSVP is helpful but not necessary. If you're able to let us know you're planning to attend, please call 607-272-0212 or stop by the office.

A Great Holiday Gift Idea
CD Cover

Looking for a special gift and want to support hospice at the same time? Consider our CD -- Beauty Crowds Me: An Homage to Beauty -- a mix of covers and original material, featuring local artists including Jayne Demakos, coordinator of our music program.

This CD is given for free to hospice patients, and is otherwise available for $18. It makes a lovely holiday gift, and all proceeds benefit Hospicare.

See our Music Program page for details, including audio samples and a list of local establishments that have carried Beauty Crowds Me. We suggest you call before visiting to verify the CD is in stock. We also have copies for sale at the Nina K. Miller Hospicare Center.

"Healing My Heart at Hospicare"
Elaine Mansfield
Writer and Hospicare Volunteer Elaine Mansfield

Elaine Mansfield is no stranger to Hospicare. She's written extensively for us, and facilitated bereavement groups such as Continuing Bonds, which ran from late 2011 to mid 2012.

Elaine started here as an office volunteer. Like many, she found her way to Hospicare partly through the transformative experience of her own loss. Elaine's husband Vic died in 2008.

In a blog post titled Healing My Heart at Hospicare, Elaine tells how she came to volunteer, from tentative first steps in the wake of her husband's death through all she's contributed since.

"I need to be with people who accept death as a natural part of life. I need to accept grief as a normal reaction to loss, not something to hide. I want to learn from death and help others deal with it."

Read the rest of Elaine's story on her blog.
