Draft Vulnerability Assessment in Review

As part of the broader suite of Climate Change Response   Framework project activities, we have recently completed the Central Hardwoods Ecosystem Vulnerability Assessment and Synthesis. This document was created for Central Hardwoods forest managers and focuses on past and projected changes in climate, impacts on tree species and forest communities, and implications for forest management.

This document will be published by the Northern Research Station as a General Technical Report, and is undergoing formal scientific review. We encourage feedback from the wider community as well. If you would like a copy of the science review draft, please contact Leslie Brandt.

Forest Managers Sought for Adaptation Demonstrations
Would you like assistance with incorporating climate change information into your next project? As part of the Central Hardwoods Climate Change Response Framework, we are seeking managers from public, private, and non-governmental organizations who would like to serve as "demonstrations" of how climate change considerations can be incorporated into forest management. Projects can be of all shapes and sizes!

To find out more about adaptation demonstrations and see some examples of projects in other regions, check out our website. If you are interested in serving as a demonstration project, contact Leslie Brandt

ncaforestrycoverNational Forest Sector Report on Climate Change Released

The National Climate Assessment (NCA) report, Effects of Climatic Variability and Change on Forest Ecosystems: A Comprehensive Science Synthesis for the U.S. Forest Sector, is now available. The report is a scientific assessment of the current condition and likely future condition of forest resources in the United States relative to climatic variability and change. The assessment provides technical input to the NCA and serves as a framework for managing forest resources in the United States. It includes a section on forests in the Midwest. More information on the report and a downloadable version can be found here.
