CMC hosts inaugural art show at Edwards campus
Friday, September 12, 2014

On Friday, September 12, the CMC campus in Edwards will come alive with art and music. The Edwards campus' inaugural student art show will be hosting a kick-off reception in the auditorium from 5-8 p.m. that is free and open to the public. The evening will feature drinks, appetizers, a jazz quartet and the artwork of more than 30 talented CMC students and faculty. All artwork will be for sale and on display throughout campus for the month following the event. The impetus for the show came from a small but dedicated group of students, faculty and community members, excited to showcase the incredible work of local artists and engage the local community. From mid-September through mid-October, the campus will transform into a gallery with more than 125 pieces, including pastels, watercolor, oils, photography, mixed medium and ceramics. The opening reception is sponsored by ArtShare, supported by the CMC Foundation and the recently formed Vail Valley Art Guild. The Jeremiah Johnson quartet consists of Denver-based jazz musicians that perform regularly at jazz clubs and events throughout Colorado including Houston's, El Chapultepec and Dazzle. The band consists of Rob Dando on upright bass, Jerry Weiss on piano, CMC faculty members Jeremiah Johnson on tenor sax and Larry Dutmer on drums, and vocalist Mary Lynn Gillespie, a former member of Benny Goodman's band Rare Silk. For more information on CMC Foundation's ArtShare, go to www.cmcartshare.com or contact Alice Beauchamp . "The Rimers of Eldritch"
By Lanford Wilson
Often referred to as a 'murder mystery' - but is it really? The question is not who shot the town derelict in this moldering Missouri hamlet, but why? The murder trial generates suspicion, fosters lies and deceit, and bares the souls of the actors as well as the audience as all are forced to look within themselves and answer questions about prejudice, suspicion, and man's inhumanity to man that will leave you pondering.
Dates: Oct. 17, 18, 23, 24 & 25 at 7 p.m., Oct 19 & 26 at 2 p.m.
"The Glorious Ones"
Book and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens; music by Stephen Flaherty
A glimpse into the backstage lives of a wandering theatre troupe in 17th century Renaissance Italy. Seven archetypal characters: the handsome leading man, the quack doctor, the crafty harlequin, the curvaceous leading lady, the graceful moon woman and others carouse and cavort across their itinerant stage. Slapstick and sexy, sly and sentimental, moving and bittersweet, "The Glorious Ones" will make you laugh and cry with rollicking good humor and naughty, bawdy fun. We did mention...bawdy, right?
Dates: Dec. 4, 5 & 6 at 7 p.m., Dec. 7 at 2 p.m., Dec. 11, 12 & 13 at 7 p.m.
"The Women of Lockerbie"
By Deborah Brevoort
December 21, 1988: Pan Am 103 is brought down over Lockerbie, Scotland by a terrorist bomb. An American mother searching for the remains of her son encounters the women of Lockerbie, local Scots who are battling the US government for the clothing of the victims, so that they can be washed and returned to their families. Structured as a Greek tragedy, "The Women of Lockerbie" is not a story of despair, but how an act of hate can be turned to an act of love.
Dates: Feb. 13 & 14 at 7 p.m., Feb. 19, 20, & 21 at 7 p.m., Feb. 15 &22 at 2 p.m.
"A Flea in Her Ear"
A New Version of Georges
Feydeau's Farce by David Ives
"A Flea in Her Ear" has widely been referred to as the greatest farce ever written. Throw in the word 'bedroom' and you get the picture. It's turn of the 20th century Paris...a jealous wife suspects her husband of cheating, so contrives to get her best friend to write him an anonymous letter to incite a tryst at the dubious Frisky Puss Hotel. The husband believes the letter to be for one of his colleagues and gives it to him...and the scene is set for an insane romp into mistaken identity, secret passages, rotating beds, and, of course, French maids.
Dates: April 10 & 11 at 7 p.m., April 16, 17, & 18 at 7 p.m., April 12 & 19 at 2 p.m.
