FROM THE TENNIS DIRECTOR

Matthew Iwersen 2

The Word of this week is compassion. This thing called compassion sometimes requires patience. I find myself forgetting to be compassionate with my children because I basically lose my patience. Even though they are getting older and sometimes think they know way more than me, I must understand that being more compassionate will actually be better for both of us. Compassion sometimes means listen and try to be sympathetic to the issues that your child or friend is having.

This also goes well for when we are playing doubles. Communicating is a crucial factor for a team but each player must show kindness and sympathy when one of the partners is having a down day. When one partner is having this kind of day it is very helpful when the other partner is positive and considerate. One must always remember that we are all capable of having a bad day and hopefully when it happens our partner will keep it positive and upbeat. Momentum swings can happen during a tennis match and so if a team is keeping it optimistic during a bad stretch quite often bad streaks can turn around and turn it to hot streaks.

I now need to put into words how kind, considerate and caring Carla Lyons was while I was fortunate enough to know her. Compassionate was just one of her great attributes. Carla was a wonderful part of our club as a member, instructor, and friend. We have lost someone very special but her spirit will stay with us.

Word of the Week

"COMPASSION"
If you want others to be happy, practice compassion.  If YOU want to be happy, practice compassion..

TENNIS TIP

Take a lesson to get better! Do you think that you are as good as you are going to be? That this is it and you won't improve anymore? Well that isn't true. I may never be as good as I was in my 20's but I could certainly improve on my mobility, stamina, and service consistency. This article sent to me from member and friend Lorne Kenyon :

After reading this article I try and ask myself "how can I get better at something" each day I wake up. Be it in tennis, fitness, or at your job keep improving.
