FROM THE TENNIS DIRECTOR
|
The Holiday season is beginning and that means another Holiday Open which always comes up on the weekend after Thanksgiving (Dec.4-6). If you want to register for this USTA sanctioned tournament go to usta.com and find it under the tournaments tab. We have the 3.0, 3.5, and open divisions for men's and women's singles as well as 7.5 combined and open divisions for men's, women's, and mixed doubles. What a great way to burn off all those calories you consumed the week earlier.
The winter in house leagues sign up forms will be posted on Monday November 30th. Please sign up for the level you are assigned. If you have questions about your rating feel free to ask me or any of the other pros. The leagues are first and foremost for the participants to enjoy a fun and competitive experience on the court. The leagues must have 8 regular players and preferably 8 substitutes for the league to take place.
Speaking of winter remember you can now sign up for our Palm Springs camp (March 16-19) held during the BNP Paribas Professional tournament. This is a fun way to see great tennis, play fun tennis, and be warm!
I want to mention that two fabulous people recently passed away. Terry Parakh and Bud Lee always brought a positive fun feeling every time they entered the club. They are deeply missed.

TENNIS TIP: Play Defense or Play Offense?
|
When playing tennis we all have a particular style we prefer to play. Sometimes we have a match that requires us to step out of our comfort zone and use a style that is not our favorite. Most of us would prefer to play our style and hope that dictates the tone of the match.
If you are struggling to win or stay in the points with your opponent the n maybe it is time to try a new tactic. If your offensive game is just not cutting it than maybe the old defensive loopy game can get you back in the match. I certainly hear "I hate playing the lobber" enough to know that it is a game that is certainly effective.
Changing a losing battle is something every good competitor has learned to apply in these circumstances. So don't be ashamed of trying to win with a game that isn't what you prefer to play, be satisfied that you were able to adapt and able to find success outside of your comfort zone.

Court Booking Privleges
Please be Fair!
We have the most generous reservation system in the PNW. Every year about this time I like to remind all tennis players of our reservation privileges. You may think this list is a little crazy, but we have these rules in place to keep it fair for all of our members. We really like it when you follow the rules. It puts pressure on us and the rest of the members if you don't. Here is the stick: if you abuse the reservation policies your membership may be suspended.
- Adult memberships receive 3 advanced reservation from Sunday through Saturday.
- Child memberships receive 2 advanced reservations from Sunday through Saturday.
- One 24 hour reservation per day
- Unlimited Walk-on Court Use
- Maximum of 2 booked courts per day
- Reservations are not transferable
- If you have used your 3 advanced reservations and want to play more, for any reason, it is a $20 court fee
- You may only book a court for yourself (and your playing partners) or your spouse and their playing partners. You may not book a court for anyone else!
- If you are calling in to book a court, you can only book one court per phone call.
There are always slippery ways to fake the system, please be ethical and considerate to all your fellow members and abide by these privileges.
Did you know we offer double memberships? You can get 6 advance reservations per week with a double membership! The fee for this add-on is $85 per month in addition to you regular membership rates. See the front desk for details.
Advance reservation reminder: If you book more than 3 advance reservations in a week (Sun-Sat), a court excess fee of $20 applies to each additional court booked.
Feeling sick? Cold and flu season is upon us. We understand that you might not be able to play when you are feeling under the weather. Please keep in mind that all changes to reservations (additions, deletions, change of players) must be made before the start of your court time or fees will be assessed.
Can't find a sub? Call the front desk. We can help you find one. Please note that if your sub already has 3 advance reservations for the week, a court excess fee of $20 will be assessed.
