October 2015

FROM THE TENNIS DIRECTOR
Matthew Iwersen 2

Thanks to all participants in the Oktoberfest Doubles Tournament. We had some excellent play and I got to play with my son Clive. I really had a good time playing and watching all the great tennis out on the courts. A special thanks to the front desk staff for taking all the phone calls and keeping the place look great. The Brat BBQ was outstanding thanks to Betty & Howard Koon. I am already looking forward to next year.

This month we want to encourage everyone to try something new. There are so many ways to explore new shots, styles, or routines. We have clinics, group training, personal training, and private lessons all here available at the club. Any of these offerings can help you try something new. If you need some encouragement try out our cardio tennis classes, core & cuff, and any other GET training classes. These classes can certainly give you ideas on what part of your life here at the club you can experience something fresh and fun in your life. So don't procrastinate we want to see you have fun with something new in your club experience.

While we are in the midst of the fall season we have to be prepared for the upcoming busy winter months. This means the courts will be busier so please be fair in booking your courts. If you are in need of new players to fill out your group don't hesitate to ask us for help. You just may find your next new best friend.

TENNIS TIP: What Style Are You?

There are different styles of tennis games and sometimes we need to recognize what we do best to make our tennis experience the most satisfying. Roger Federer has taken on a much more aggressive game plan lately so he doesn't have to play long drawn out points. So if possibly the best player to ever play can change his style of play and still stay up at the top you too might want to try out something different to spice up your game. Here are three styles you may want to give a shot at:

  • Aggressive Baseliner: Think Agassi - this type of play stays near or inside the baseline and picks up the ball quite often on the rise. This style of play speeds up the points and tries to fore the action from the baseline.
  • Defensive baseliner: Think Nadal - this type of player is willing to run everything down and has patience. Like Nadal at his best this player frustrates the opponents into making many unforced errors
  • Serve & Volley - Think McEnroe - this player likes quick points ending at the net. Federer has incorporated some of this into his game. This game is a bit riskier but can have great rewards when successful. You may want to give this a shot in your doubles game.

So with the theme of trying something new this month why not go out and try to incorporate one of these styles that might interest you and breathe some new life in your game.
