| What kind of coach are you looking for?
|
Who Needs a Coach? I Do! Do you?
The smartest I ever will ever be was at age 17.
It was then that I knew that I knew everything.
Each year since then, I discover the vastness of what I don't know that I have so much to learn.
Why is that? Maybe because the scope of my world was so small at age 17 and now, creeping up on age 54, my world view is so much bigger.
Of course I know that I don't know everything! About 5 years ago I attended a fitness conference and I was introduced to the idea of the "mastermind" group. The guru of this group gathered together 25 fitness professionals who wanted to improve their business and their lives. I thought this was a good idea, joined the group, and had my first coach in many years, and my first business coach ever.
WOW! I loved it! Talk about kicking energy and productivity to an entirely different level. It is fantastic to reach out to learn what others know and improve yourself.
A coach can come in many forms - the obvious one is for sports. But have you ever thought about other ways in your life that you could benefit from the advice and experience of a professional? Coaches are the ones who can help motivate you, keep you accountable, and give you tools to make progress. A coach will help you define a goal and keep you on track to reach it. A coach should inspire you to greatness. Coaches will help you evaluate your routine and how to change it to get different, better results. I also love working with our Personal Trainers. Even though I know a lot of fitness technique, our Trainers always challenge me with new ways to train.
I LOVE working with a coach! I'm working with another mastermind now to help me launch the "Healthy Knees Coach" program so that I can become that coach to other trainers who want to learn the methods of how to work with clients with knee issues (50% of all people over the age of 50 will have knee issues by the time they are 85). It is so exciting to work with someone you trust who is guiding you and holding you accountable. It is challenging! And that feels good.
Business Coach, Sports Coach, Life & Wellness Coach, a Mental Coach (psychologist)... there many. If you keep doing what you are doing, you will get the same results. Is it time for different results? Here is how we can help you: Tennis Coach (Tennis Pro) to improve your game: Fitness Coach (Personal Trainer) to improve your health and fitness. Go on, give it a try! Go Ahead, Get Yourself a Coach! OCTOBER GIFT FOR YOU!

Member of the Month: Meet Glenna Hansen
|
Exercising is often on the bottom of people's list of "fun" activities, and while we all know it is an essential part of life, our negative attitudes can play a major role in how we approach working on our health.
Our October Member of the Month is a lady who uses her positive attitude to turn exercising into something more than just a chore to check off a to-do list.
Meet Glenna Hansen, a Club Member who refuses to be called a "LOL" (Little Old Lady) and is instead earning the loving nickname of "beast" by her personal trainers.
Glenna joined Bellingham Tennis and Fairhaven Fitness a few months ago at the recommendation and prodding of her good friend and fellow Club Member Cecile Pickford. Cecile and Glenna's families have been friends for decades, and participate in a 5-generational yearly rummy tournament. It is referred to as the P.O.C.R.T. (Pan Oceanic Chicago Rummy Tournament), and, if their schedules allow, Glenna's 2 grandchildren visit from Utah to partake in the card game each summer.
While Glenna had a few goals in mind when joining the Club (lose weight, tone-up and have a waistline again) she admits she had no idea what she was getting into. Glenna got hooked up with personal trainer Tyler Brown, whom she now works with twice a week. Tyler has affectionately nicknamed Glenna a "beast" much to her delight. "I have absolutely no intention of being a little old lady!" she says with a laugh. She and Tyler work on a variety of machines, workouts with the fitness balls, and many other exercises.
Which workout turned Glenna into the "beast"? The deadmill. The deadmill is when the treadmill is turned off, but you work to move the belt yourself. Once when Glenna's normal piece of equipment was being used, Tyler had Glenna try a deadmill. A week later when Glenna had her next training session, she ASKED Tyler if they could repeat the deadmill. Tyler likens this exercise to pushing furniture across a house. Glenna just laughs when recalling this workout. "I liked it! I felt like I was really doing something!"
Glenna was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, but spent a large portion of her life living in Arizona where she worked as a paralegal for 25 years. In Arizona, Glenna suffered from asthma and was lured back to Bellingham because of the clean air (6 years without a single asthma attack; way to go, PNW air!) She enjoys walking around beautiful Bellingham, playdates with her sister's Chihuahua and seeing films at the Pickford Cinema.
To most people, an exercise similar to pushing furniture across a room wouldn't be something we would volunteer to do or laugh about, but Glenna's attitude changes these difficult tasks into steps necessary to meet her fitness goals. Imagine if we could all take a lesson from Glenna and for the time we designate each week to working out, set our preconceived notions aside and consider it all "fun." After all, who wants to be a LOL when we can achieve "beast" status?
Thank you Glenna, for your delightful personality and great attitude. You have inspired us all to take a different approach when it comes to our fitness routines.
