THE GOOGLE EXPEDITION PIONEER PROGRAM TAKES RRMS STUDENTS ON A FANTASTIC VOYAGE
|
With small cardboard boxes pressed to their faces, sixth and seventh-grade students at Rehoboth Road Middle School explored the Great Wall of China, the Washington Monument, the Statue of Liberty and the Great Barrier Reef all without leaving their desks.
On February 5, representatives from Google came to Rehoboth Road Middle as part of the company's Expeditions Pioneer Program. RRMS students had the unique opportunity to use Google Cardboard, a virtual reality platform, built for the classroom. Google worked with content partners from around the world to create more than 100 engaging journeys for students. The journeys are collections of 360-degree photo spheres and 3D images with video and sound.
The limited pilot program provides selected teachers with "kits" that include everything a classroom needs to venture out on Google Expeditions. The kit included: ASUS smartphones for each student, a tablet for the teacher to act as the tour director, an internet router (allowing Expeditions to run without an internet connection), Google Cardboard or View-Masters to turn smartphones into virtual reality headsets and Google Expeditions software which creates 360-degree views of major landmarks and locations.

"There are only three measurements that tell you nearly everything you need to know about your organization's overall performance: employee engagement, customer satisfaction, and cash flow. It goes without saying that no company, small or large, can win over the long run without energized employees who believe in the mission and understand how to achieve it."
~ Jack Welch, former CEO of GE
